The pine kicks ass for canoeing, i bet this year it should be kicking too with the amount of snow/rainfall.
But I too would think it may be a bit cold to tube, unless it's like 100* out then go for it
up in newaygo mi. there is a good campground. you can tent out in this big field for 10 bucks a head, and they all love to party. we were gettin crazy out there, and some locals came over to 'talk to us' we thought we were in trouble. the dude is like... HEY, are you gunna pick up your cans? i say, uuh, yea. Well, if you don't we'll come get them after you are gone and return them...
they also have their own tubing stuff and will drop you off, and you end the trip at the campground... = no driving if you like to party hard.
im going up to sturgis in a couple weeks to tube the rifle river but ive been canoeing on the au sable many of times and its a great time beautiful sceneary
Fyi all the party spots opn the ausable have been blocked off by the dnr. The took huge deadfall and dropped it there. And also on busy weekends they patrol the river hardcore so don't be to big of a asshole.
me and about 20 friends tubed the AuSable in early June of this year and we had a blast! we did a 5hr trip near greyling. We had 4 coolers filled with beer, 600+ jello shots, sandwiches... that made for a good trip
The Pine is great for canoeing or kayaking, but I wouldn't want to tube it. That would be entirely too much work. You'd barely be able to enjoy your beer because you'd constantly be pulling yourself away from logs/banks.
Rifle just east of West Branch is not too bad although I would not tube rent a canoe. If your trip takes 2+ hours you will be cold and not feeling great.
Troll Landing and Rifle River rentals or something like that off M-55 east of M-36
If you decide on AuSable, let me know and I will give you a GL4x4 sticker for your tube.
Then I will watch for you and shoot you with a paintball gun, or an air rifle.
I've done the Rifle and Ausable before, they are both fun!
