22r won't idle

It will start pretty well whether it is warm or cold and run as long as you keep on the gas. When it is warm I can keep it running as low as 1000 RPM. It also seems to run when the choke is on.
It is a 22r that I have just about completely rebuilt. I had it bored 0.020 over and I am told it has a mild cam in it. I have a weber 32/36 progressive carb that I bought new last summer on it that I have completely disassembled and cleaned twice. The valve timing is correct. The non advanced ignition timing is about +5 degrees and I have also tried two different intake manifolds will all of the vacuum ports plugged. I have tried adjusting the mixture screw with no change. I put a vacuum gage on it and it reads 12-18 either lbs or inches of mercury I don't remember exactly.

Any ideas on what could be the problem?
How to fix them?

i might be way off here but a buddy had a toyota pickup witht the little 4 banger early 80s id like to say it was the 22r. anyway he had the same problem and it turned out that the new gas was eating up the old fuel lines and it was pluggin his carb up.

I ran into this with a 81 I had sometime back I tryed every thing I could think of and that dam thing would just die when you took your foot off the gas. the quick fix I found to work the best was to put in a hand throttle problem solved

I had the same problem when my yota still had the 22r in it. It was the choke sticking. On plug the choke once it warms up.

ya my truck has been doing this to, I kept takin the air cleaner off and cleaning the carb, and it would work good for about 50 miles and then go back to idlin at 2500rpm. I fixed it by tearing the carb off cleanin it and then did some adjusting to the air-fuel mix.

seems to be a comon issue tho, my buddie has a 80 with a weber and a offenhauser intake and we have did just about everything and still cant quite figure it out

the hand throttle looks pretty interesting to tho, might have to give it a try, id prolly put liek a bmx brake on it and try it like that.
