my cousin has built tons of them .. built a set up for his house and my uncles house.. and builds them to sell .. if you wana drive to custer kentucky to pick it up im sure he's build you a set up

he heats his house garage hot water and pool with it..

Built mine using a 400 gal., electrical transformer for the tank. Firebox is 30"diax 1/2" underground compressed gasline stub. Chimney stack- 1/2"x9" pipe. Handle is made from a leaf spring for tension on the door. All from the scrap yard. Got 300 feet of Pex off ebay for $150 shipped. Circulating pump $80-$90, aquastat, same price. It's great if you have wood access, firewood has gone up alot. I burn alot of trash and scrap in it too. I built a shed around it for now. Still plan to frame it up and insulate it with foam. I've seen guys have foam done for $400 or so.

Weigh out whether you want an indoor or outdoor one first. I thought of both, but went with an indoor wood boiler. I use much less wood than the outside ones, and I don't have to get all dressed up to go out and fill it. Using hardwoood, I can usually fill it twice a day with about 8 small logs.

I'm also considering building one, to heat the house and the barn...was thinking of building a waste oil furnace to heat the shop, but the cost of the stove pipe makes it not really worth building, since I was interested in it due it costing me nothing to build it...an outside wood burner would solve that issue, along with adding a way to heat the house at the same time.

My cousins is built using an old propane tank.. has a hole in the door for air to come in with a valve on the intake tube.. the valve is thermostatically controlled based on water temp i believe.. it closes so you don't burn through all your wood so fast when the heat isn't needed.. the door i believe is cut from 1/2" steel. uses 110v circulatory pumps. the whole set up heats very well. He also covered the entire thing in what look like great stuff expanding foam but it comes in like R 134a cylinders and mixes in the hose.. im not sure what he used for hose but its also covered in the foam..
