Default Finally built a cage....lots of pics

So my buddy decided to build a tubing bender last fall and asked me if I wanted to go in on it with him, so I said why not. We got the bender together about a month ago and this was our first project with it. We wanted to build a "dual purpose" cage...meaning that we can still access the rear of the CJ and the hard top will still fit and we loose none of the factory comforts (not much in a CJ) but we can still operate the window cranks open the glove box fit the center counsel in and use the factory seat belts. My buddy used bendtech pro so we were able to make this cage fit EXTREMELY tight (1/8 inch between the cage and the hard top. We decided on a general design and then changed it a little bit. These are the pics from start to the point we are at now, all we have left to do is fab up the frame tie in mounts and that is it. We have decided to pre-fab up these roll cages and sell them in kits so people just need to weld them together, good idea we think. here are the pics

The only criticism I can offer is that you should have had the bars that run over the driver and passangers head go to the joint where the tubes that run on a diagonal from the rear meet the center bar.

Looks awesome though!

We ended up using .120 wall tube... as for the two tubes that run diagonal from the corner of the A spreader and pillar going all the way back to the B pillar.....After we had the cage pretty much welded together we thought about that and realized how much better it would transfer load, but decided that we did not want to cut the diagonal tubes out and re make them. but you totally right they need to go back to the B spreader tube.

Here is a pick of the homemade bender

I got my HREW 1.75" .120 wall tubing at $1.52 a foot in January and I got about 110' of tube into the cage. Yeah it might be a bit much but with all the triangulation on top will really help transfer loads in a roll, especially because I choose to omit the the diaganol spreader between the B pilars, but I had to keep it out so I could still get people in the back seat. I am really pleased with the design We came up with though.....Personaly I think it looks pretty bitchin'....but I am biased because It is my cage and me and my buddy built it.

the only reason I have sunflower seeds in my jeep is for when I am phesant hunting........I drive along the edge of a field and throw one sunflower seed out about every 10 seconds and I make an delicious trail for all the phesants to follow, then when I get around a sharp corner in the road I quick hide the jeep in the woods and wait face down in the ditch with my gun when it smells like the phesants are close enough I jump up and hit them with the butt of my 12 gauge......so that is why I keep sunflower seeds in the jeep....ALWAYS....works every time Now everyone on this board knows my phesant hunting trick
