4.88 35's
4.56 33's
4.10 31's
It's a jeep they suck gas no matter what you do. Plus your OD will knock it down a few RPM's.

This table is by far the best one I've found to get RPM's and other info. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

By the way Toivo, I dont really know where you are getting the $1200 price from I mean I found a set of 4.10s on here for $125 (OEM) and got a carriers for about $100...I dont know what labor charges are but wow...I was thinking more like $500-$700 total...I would just keep my eyes open for deals because they are out there every where.

Like I said before I may be off my rocker here...

And if you're regearing, look into replacing your carriers with a full-carrier locker like a Detroit Locker or LSD like a Detroit Truetrac (nice in front). It's more $$, but a lot more "bang" as well. When I took my D30/D35 from 3.07s (awesome with 33s) to 4.56 (across the 3.73 carrier break) that's what I did.

Can't he just run "thick cut" gears and reuse his existing carriers?

Find me a thick cut reverse dana 30 R&P. Oh and if he has the Chrysler 8.25 his carrier will work.

he should have the 8.25 so all he would need is a carrier for the front dana 30?

Yes the carrier break is up to 2.45 and 2.71 and higher in the 8.25. If people would red the sticky in this forum called Differential Case Breaks (or, "Do I need a new carrier?") they could answer there own questions.

If you are going to drive this on the highway, pick your gearing so that you don't exceed 2500 at 70mph. The XJ 4.0 is happy there. You'll piss yourself off if you gear too low.

:chiefwoohaw: :chiefwoohaw: :chiefwoohaw: :chiefwoohaw: :chiefwoohaw: There is no such thing as a gear to low. You just drive slower.
