Default new 08' rules for silver lake

good news,NONE!

question to pete lumborg, "boy it's been a long winter?do you know if there is going to be any changes at the dunes this year?"

answer,"No big changes for the ORV rules and regulations for this season. We may set up a point on Fox Road for folks with the next voucher period to start lining up that won't conflict with people trying to get in for the current session. Some paving projects at the Voucher Center and repairs to road surfaces at the ORV Parking Lot will probably happen in the next year. There is also a pedestrian walkway project that we are collecting materials for that will go along where the sand pathway is now, next to the entrance road."

That is good to hear. The driveway to the voucher center is in a rediculous state of disrepair. And a paved walkway for foot traffic would be appreciated by all I think. So they are not going to raise the price of orv stickers? when was the last time that was done? In my opinion I would not be opposed to spending more on my orv voucher if it meant that the extra funds generated would go to keeping trails open in Michigan. What do the rest of you guys think?

before they raise the ORV pricing from the $16.25, they need to tell us what the current $$ is being used for... nevermind the fact that its the same price for a full size user as it is for a motorcylce or alike....

Sure why not, GLFWDA dues just went up, state parks and campgrounds are closing, people are losing jobs/hours, we have the highest foreclosure rate in the nation, our governor is an absolute monkey, and everything else in life keeps costing more.

Yup, I am all for it.

So the rules up at Silver Lake stayed the same but we got some improvements to the facilities? That sounds like great news. Why did the original poster say there was no good news?

If you want to know where the money from your ORV sticker goes just ask.
http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7...984---,00.html

above you will find all the information about grant money that is available, some of which comes from the sale of the ORV sticker

There is a pie chart that has the breakdown somewhere on the DNR site. I can tell you that the majority goes back to the trail system through the grant process. GLFWDA recieves money from this grant process by doing trail maintenance on several routes. So in essence we get our money back!

I can also tell you that a percentage of the ORV fund money goes to law enforcement, restoration, and purchasing of maintenance equipment.

Here is another link to ORV advisory board meeting mintueshttp://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7...424---,00.html

Ironman,

I don't see anywhere in those links breaking down the costs from the $16.25. I did notice that in the meeting minutes, they have no idea how to spell Bob DeVore's name though..... I also see information relating to grants, but nothing back to the ORV sticker fee, perhaps I missed something? I believe at one time there was discussion regarding changing the fees for full size users vs atv and alike, but it was shot down as we didn't know what the current $16.25 was going for....

I have the pie chart somewhere, I'll see if I cant dig it up. In order for the grants department to execute a grant they need to have certain amounts going certain directions.

Who was discussing different amounts for full size vs ATV? Someone in the audience at a meeting? If that was the case than absolutely it was dismissed.

also Steve Kubsiak the ORV program director would supply the breakdown mailto:kubisias@michigan.gov

Paul Hitte the GLFWDA treasurer should also have this info available in the grant paperwork.

not sure if you are being sarcastic or a dick or what but the way i see it is if you can find the money to build and wheel your rig than your job security, housing, family well being and such must be in check or you wouldn't be doin it right. so why not raise the price if the money will actually be used properly, that is what i was saying.

Right, but 4wheeling isn't my only hobby. Hobbies are not the only costs I have in life, I can't think of anything other then my boat insurance (Thanks to a gl4x4 member ) that went down this year. I didn't get a COLA raise though. You've heard the term the straw that breaks the camel's back right? You have to draw the line somewhere or do one of two things, choose to get out of the sport, or pick and choose where you spend your money in regards to the sport.

Pat, I was actually going to wait and join when it WAS $50. Now I didn't follow the whole thread on glfwda board. But if no additional money is going to glfwda then I will just join now.

I am thread hi-jacking like crazy, back on topic, things are improving out at Silver Lake or at least stayed status quo this year and that is a welcome change to learning of closures.

Sorry guys, no pie chart from the numbers guy....

License Fee $16.25 goes to:
Safety Education $1.00
ORV Trail Improvement Fund $15.00
Agent/Dealer Commission $0.25 (what a bargain!)

ORV Trail Improvement Fund $15.00 goes to:
Trail Improvement and Maintenance Grants 50%
Damage Restoration Grants 12.5%
Administration 3.125%
Law Enforcement ORV Trail Improvement Grants 3.125%
Law Enforcement 31.25%

From the Law Enforcement piece 24% is allocated to County Sheriffs. Not sure if that is 24% of $15, or 24% of 31.25%.

While I have it out, some other 2007-2008 interesting statistics:
$2.9MM Grants Requested
$2.5MM Appropriated

Un-obligated balances (as of 11/7/07)
Trail Maintenance & Development $259k
Restoration $73k

I am trying to find something to tie this back to Silver Lake regulations to stay on topic, but I failed....sorry for the continued hi-jack.

It is good to hear silverlake will be in full swing, but it seems like they could come up with a better voucher system. The current one requires alot more employees than before, requires alot of waisted time and fuel to get a voucher on big weekends (do something on the internet?)?? You all may want to shoot me, but I think it should be able to work better.

Thanks for the info. Bill, no changes sounds good to me. When they make changes or the police start enforcing laws such as the towing law it always seems to be hard to get used to & cost us more money. See you on the dunes. Ron

Just a reminder the Mid-Michigan 4 wheelers dune clean-up is 6-14-08

Ron, you should post the clubs cleanup in the trail rides section and on GLFWDA forums non sanctioned event forum as well as the Silverlakeforum.com

The year I posted it everywhere we had tons of help, 2004 I believe.
