actually...if you go back and read my first post we've already made media commitments to as far as a 2010 year for the diesel product and the discussion over Michigan Truck has been ongoing since Dearborn truck started operating.

As for a v6 diesel. I've ridden in one test bed. I'm not 100% certain thats the exact platform for the 2010 release.

As for Rover. Ford did design the 3.7l diesel the range rover uses.

I think they just need to stick that 6.4 Twin Turbo in a F-150 we have one in our company truck and you best be having a plan when you touch that monster off. Not sure on this one of you ford guys correct me, but isn't the 6.4 an inhouse motor or is it INT/Navi?

The purpose of creating diesel half tons is to get better mileage.

So, you need a smaller, lighter motor than the 3/4ton-up diesels of today.

You also want less power output, because the 600+ ft-lb monsters demand stronger frames, stronger axles, drivetrains, etc to cope with that power, which further drives weight up.

Diesel 150, eh? Sounds good to me. I know it's a ways off, but any ideas on pricing?

Pricing? Bwahahaahahaha

Seriously. There's so many factors its not even a fun thing to think about. Like I said initially, the US consumer is a hard sell on diesels in general even though the truck market is a bit more lax about it. So you have to make a pricing deal there to get people to think about it. It has to be competitive with the Gas engine without sacrificing power or towing ability or it simply won't sell. Your guess at this point is as good as mine would be if its marked up much at all and then there's the whole factor of which trim levels and packages it would be available in. IMO, Ford has not done well with tying features into packages consumers typically do not want entirely for an exorbitant amount.

This has nothing to do with technical specs. This is a sales issue. It's not like offering a diesel as an upgrade option on the super duty. This is a mileage standpoint shift for a defined market segment. In other words, its meant to be comparable with the Gas v8 5.4l presently offered for the same role but offering better fuel economy for a price. What the technical specs end up being are immaterial. That is the target market the product is aimed at filling.
