You really don't have to rev that high, maybe like 2k. That would be to get to 110v range. I do most of the welding at about 1300 rpms.

Thats a really cool idea. Nice Write up. I think what Firehawk Suggested might be something to look into. It would be Overdriving the alternator which would make it run faster and then the engine would not have to work as hard. Not saying 1300 is fast. But you could have it welding at Idle possibly. (well, Idle for my truck at least.)

On another note, My friend baught one of these from a guy who had it in his barn for like 15 years. It looks exactly like that. I should get on him to install it in his Truck.
