Up to today,,, it has never been known for certain which the full size 4x4 group was involved in the Maxton Plains incident,, or who it was that actually drove out on the plains,,, However, the group that was caught out in the wetlands this past season has always been suspected,,,..

MotorSlut,, alludes that one group did both.. I've always thought they did as well... The Rental cabin is very to the plains and as I understand it, they stayed there at the time the plains were ripped up/ driven upon.. While I have no proof the same group did both,, I honestly suspect she is most likely right.

As to the DI trails:.... The trails/forest roads are open. The have not been closed.

I was told that the party involved did everything but I can't be sure as I never heard it from them personally. I don't know the people involved very well but I have met them once before. I got most of my information from a friend who knows them pretty well. He said they had a mixed story of what happened including the claim of "we were just following a trail!"

never piss off the locals of anywhere you go...
it can make your life hell:miff:

beside the ferry boats have the right to refuse service to anyone right?

what happens if the they started to use that right....

or if the cottages and motels were suddenly full for any time we wanted to stay on the island...

i know that is a little extreme in thoughs but you never know if you piss of the locals too much

Quick question...

What (if any) would be done if these, or any other genius, were to have a GL4x4 sticker on thier vehicle while doing these things? You can't MAKE them remove the sticker can you? You could ban them from the website I suppose...until they got a new IP address or something.

I'm just throwing this out as a "what-if"? The DNR remembers things like stickers and banners. GL4X4 isn't a "club" per say, but in my heart of hearts I like to think GL4x4 does a good job of promoting responsible wheeling. It only takes one free-thinker to ruin the reputation of this or any group. So I ask you again...

What could be done to distance someone like this from the reputation of GL4X4?

Drummond is awesome for fishing, hiking, camping, etc... it really is a unique place. I don't say this often, but they should probably close all the public areas to wheeling.

So wheelers do more damage than say loggers? Why would you even mention closing public land while they still allow logging to go on? Who does more damage?

Yes D.I. is a cool /unique place. That is why we go there TO WHEEL every year. I'm only one person, but if you close down public land on the island I know about 20-30 people that probably would not be going there every year. So every town that people stop at on their journey from home to the island would lose revenue. How is that a good thing?

Don't get me wrong, they should stop logging it as well.

It is good they caught the guys, but the damage they have done is more than just tearing up some land. Their punishment will not even come close to making amends. Even after fixing the damage, the pictures will live on, forever fueling the anti motorized sentiment. There is at least one hardcover picture book about environmental damage from motorized off roading and it costs 60 bucks no less!

With over 100 stirring color photographs and powerful essays from policy experts, scientists, and environmental activists, Thrillcraft bears witness to the senseless destruction that is risking access to the beauty, silence, and splendor of our country’s natural world for future generations.
I fear for the future for wheeling because there will always be those who enjoy destruction and doing it illegally just adds to their thrill.

We can have it all for a short time, enough for a while, or nothing for forever.

When your talking about land use you have to fight your battles. Drummond island it not only beautiful, it's got some seriously rare flora.

Most of the people on this site are not the ones tear assing around Drummond, but a lot of the people that wheel there have no respect for nature at all.

Is it worth loosing what Drummond looks like? It's just as awesome on foot or on bike.

Are you mad we can't wheel in Yellowstone too? Don't even get me started on the sleds that run through it in the winter.

The park there is open, and is private. Wheel the park, hike the trails... I'm rarely a hippie, but I feel pretty strongly about this one.
