California's License Plates

California is proposing to have new license plates for those convicted of two or more DUIs. The person must have the license plate for two years, until it's cleared off their record. The plate will be read, and read "DUI" vertically down the left side.

I think it's a pretty good idea. Sex offenders have to let their neighborhood know they're one, so why shouldn't everyone else on the road that we drive on let us know they've been having a drinking and driving problem?

In michigan they just cut your plate and make you use a Paper one for 10 months. That seems like a better idea, make the plates cost like $500 too. haha

if you dont learn after the first tim eyou getr busted ... then i think they need some sort of alternative shamming since they either have a problem or dont respect others. I like that idea. I am sorta surprise cali would do it though, they are such sissies out there. I personally would like to see something more creative and burdensome for people that wreck while drunk, and if they injure or kill someone else i really dont care what they do to them. I jsut want it to be terrible.

Definately an excellent idea. I think the plate should be red with white lettering instead of the dark blue and white lettering, to make it stand out more. Along with the "DUI" on the side.

More expensive the better.

HAH! Just noticed on the article.. they are red... :miff:

Not that I am against it, but if sex offenders had a special plate they would be singled out and beat

The whole idea of this process is to give people notice so they can protect themselves," Haynes said. "They see the car going down the road and they can get out of the way and protect themselves from those who drive while drunk.

Riiiiiight, a special license plate will protect people from getting hit by a drunk driver. I don't see how a special license plate will do any good. Why not enforce the current laws or make them stricter, like suspending the drivers license for the 2 years instead of giving him a shiney new plate to drive around in.

I think they meant while driving. So people knew to watch the car for doing stupid stuff. The plate would also cause social humiliation, and likely some new ding's while in the grocery store. Don't drive drunk, period. Let alone twice.

I think it's a great idea! If you don't drink and drive, you have nothing to worry about!

It's a good Idea.

Lots of people get one dui, and learn their lesson. I sure as hell did, and haven't done it since.

Only the idiots get 2 or more. You know the consequences, and the fact you could kill somebody, but you keep doing it. If you're that inconsiderate, I guess you shouldn't even be out boozing.

I LIKE drinking, but you can still go out, get as buzzed up as you want, and still be safe about it.
