My brother is actually the only master mechanic in the state certified to work on those things, out in Roc hills. They all have plastic body panels, he said you can change all of em in about an hour or so, if you want another color or one gets damaged...I think they are not bad, just tiny

so how do smart cars compare to motorcycles in crash tests?

they sound like death traps the way some people are talking about them. They can't be any worse than a motorcycle right?

Three downsides he said were:
  1. No spare tire, but comes with its own special bottle of fix a flat.
  2. Only takes premium gas and no diesel option currently.
  3. Tires can't be rotated because they're wider tires in the rear.
W00T! My dad picked it up today! Took this video on my phone of it real quick. Got pictures coming of it once he gets back from dinner. Everyone is stopping and asking questions about it.

They come over here all the time because they've been over in Canada for a couple years. They didn't bring them over to the US til this month.

EDIT: Just went driving around in it...w00t, paddle shifters! Going to see Rambo tonight in the Smart although they'll probably think we're going to see that 27 Dresses movie with that car.

As I truckdriver I get to see more than the usual amount of accidents. I still say a steel frame and more curb weight wins. Of course, why spend all the time trying to survive the accident when we ought to just spend it trying to better educate driver to not create the accident. Even the safest car in the world doesn't portect the rest of us from a dumbass driver.
