I just noticed that trail junkies has a stinger too. Does that mean that he is an attention whore too?
How come you don't see that many around on jeeps. They seem like a good idea if you could remove them.

Since I have front and rear stingers does that make me a whore that goes both ways?

So you're calling that penis a "rear stinger"? Appropriate. and stuff.

What do stingers really do? Admittedly, your rear stinger is awesome for mounting your spare and letting the rear of your jeep slide off obstacles without hanging up on said spare (ala Monkeyevil :tonka: )....

but

What does a front stinger do? I looks like it is intended to keep the rig from doing an "endo", however, if you're that much over-rotated, I don't think it would be strong enough to provide the needed support.

and

The attention-whore comment is basically about extensive exo-cages. IMHO, the best wheeling rig will be as light as possible. An exocage is a tremendous amount of extra weight for not much benefit. I can agree with some armor - KOZ has produced an excellent example on the rear of his grand; functional and at the same time, spartan.

Honestly, you don't take a rig over rocks and through trees to keep it pretty.

It is amazing how a thread explodes when you don't pay attention to it for several days

stingers were primary an icelandic thing for the most part. It serves a very functional purpose there. Offroading on the iceflows you can run across a spot where the ice will simply fall out from under you and you begin to endo without warning. The stinger is such that it hits the opposing side of the chasm and keeps you up. Granted stingers in iceland are like 7-9 feet long.

What purpose they serve in this country I'm not sure. I can't even think of a reason to have it rock crawling at Moab or something.

When you start to roll over forward, the angled nature of the stinger can redirect the vehicle so that you just end up flopping onto your side, which can be a much softer hit than the ass-end of the vehicle coming down from 15' (or whatever) in the air). It can also change the vector of the roll so that you are no longer pointing straight downhill and are carrying less momentum. You can also keep the shit in the front like the radiator and winch protected with a stinger so that you can actually drive out or recover yourself if you get righted again.

it was my understanding that the stinger protects your hood and engine capartment in the event of a rollover. It creates a triangulated point with the cage at the windsheld, thus not effecting the motor. I know I had a buddy who rolled his Jeep and the hood was not touched because of his stinger.
