This has to be one of the best things I've seen him suggest doing yet I guarantee that this is not an item that any even remotely intelligent person would get a patent for. He is clearly blowing smoke and just talking crap so he can hear his own epenis voice.

How many ZJ cages do you think could possibly be sold----no where near enough to justify a patent.

You are 100% incorrect.. I sued him for the balance due. He never attempted to come after me because I had numerous signed waivers and plenty of people there when he was told it was not done / ready / no where near ready to leave. It was not dismissed, I was issued a garnishment and he was so damn dumb that he actually left money in the account that I was garnishing.

Funny :miff:, if you would like I can scan the waivers that clearly spell out how this was not any where even close to a finished project and should not even be leaving the shop.

Anyways back to the comical thread

Well since this has clearly become a bashing thread. Does anybody know the guy who owns the truck in this pic?

He's a complete asshat as well. He ran over our marker pole on our campsite at silver lake and cost me $25. Not to mention he is a complete tool.

Yea, it wasn't the track bar that failed according to his blog. It was the drag link.

So, he drove it out of the shop when you told him not to, and then almost killed someone with it? What an ass.

can someone explain to me how you patent tube work? I could somewhat see copywriting a design so is can't be duplicated, but a patent is a whole nother thing right?

I guess I should patent using an umbrella on a rainy day, I would make a shit-ton of cash!!!

a patent is/can be a number of things. to me, more perplexing than the suggested patent on the design of this exo, are existing patents on dna, gene splicing, and chemical compounds as an example...

For something to be patented, it needs to be new and unique and never produced before. Or, if it has been done before, it needs to have an improvment that is innovative. So, some thoughts:

Rollbars have been around a long time.
Exo cages have been around a long time.
Latching/hinging doors on exo cages have been around a long time.
Tied into a frame has been around a long time but I don't know how most people tie into a unibody. Could be something there.
Tieing in with flexible bushing mounts has been done.
Bolt together and weld together kits have been around a long time.
Supplying light tabs/ flag tabs/ racks has been done before.

So, does anybody know what unique thing he has that hasn't been listed?

Using that information, you can't patent a bumper, or a crusher corner, or a hood, or a light, or a windshield, etc....

There has to be something that measures how "different" a new item is, and it has to be able to get a patent.

The question on the above would be are there more than one patents on each of the items you listed? It's a lot easier to get a patent on the first one out of the box. That's why I listed all the things that I would consider prior art. Yes, you are right, getting a new patent on a bumper would have to show that no one had done anything similar that you would have gotten the idea from.

Regarding the measure of how different something is; that's where a good attorney comes in. On a recent patent appliction we were turned down because we had a conflict with some prior art. Our attorneys talked to the patent agent, figured out where the grey area was at and boom, we had our patent. (if you ever answer my final shipping questions you will see said patented item)
