my f-350 had a marine trolling battery cranking a 460 when i bought it :tonka:

I'm not sure what I would buy, but no way in hell I would spend the money on an Optima again.

Never had any issues with a Red Top, and I use my winches pretty hard...

I have an Optima red top dual terminal battery in my Jeep. Top 2 are posts and side 2 are threaded. It's been in service for around 4 years without a glitch. If you are using a 4 post battery be sure to hook your winch up to the top 2 posts as the side terminals aren't rated for the potential amp draw of a winch. I swapped all my Jeep's power cables to the side terminals and the winch gets the top 2 posts solo. Like I said before...not a problem in the 4 years its been in there.

I put an Exide Orbital in my tow rig when they first came out, and it didn't last a year.

No one local had the red top in the higher CCA models, so I went with a yellow top d34-78

FWIW:

Red tops are for general use high CCA but not deep discharge

yellow tops are meant for deep discharge use and have slightly less CCA than red tops.

Blue tops are long term deep cycle usage for marine/RV's. They are not meant for deep discharge. They simply are meant to hold a charge longer without charging.

never again will I waste my cash on an optima. put a red top in and the thing would not even come close to cranking my sbc. left me stranded so many times and can't even remember. in the winter if you let it sit in the jeep overnight in the garage it would have .25" ice on it in the morning and be completely dead. put the 1000 cca die hard rangehandler back in and it can sit a month in the winter and still fire up the motor. ironically I gave the pooptima to my brother in law and he used it for years with no issues at all.

Life support or hospital grade generators have sealed gell pack batteries. Home standby generators get cheap deka's.

Both kind of batteries have trickle chargers, so the batteries very rarely go bad, unless the battery charger fails

I put a exide orbital in my 03 silverado and I am not very happy.
If i leave my laptop in my truck for over 2 hours my battery is dead and if I leave my ryobi charger plugged in my battery is dead in the morning. On a side note before the stock battery quit working it did not have a problem like this. Also I had a yellow top in my jeep that I would leave the laptop in all night and it would still start fine.

I have taken the battery in to be checked and they say it is fine so I will not buy another exide.
