Default school me on toilets

We are remodeling our half bath. Wife wants a different color toilet that has a better look. After shopping all day (while on vacation) I find that toilets range in price from $150 to $1000. Some have 2" ports in the tank, some 3", brochures argue both are best, Kohler has the Ingenium, class V, :chiefwoohaw::chiefwoohaw:. I came away more confused than educated.

I want something that will work well but don't need to spend $1000. Can I buy a decent $250 toilet at Lowe's or do I need to spend top dollar?

Who has good experience and suggestions?

Thanks.

By the way, I am sure this thread will get plenty of smart ass comments so please get them out of the way so I can get some good input.

That should get most of the BS out of the way for you.

Personally i would go with what is most comfortable to sit on.

Now for the serious comments.

Canada has all the good ones. they don't have water restrictions per flush like we do, they have 3 gallon tanks on them. Talk about power poop moving.

X2 on smuggled Canadian toilets.

Only in the U.S. do we allow politicians to design toilets.

The Champion from American Standard can flush amazing quantities of material without clogging.

X2 on Canadian!!

I don't see the point on the 1gpf toilet if you have to flush 3 times to get the shit to go down!

I put a Kohler in when I remodeled my bathroom. I think the bowl was about $120 and the tank was on sale for $70 or so.

I've dropped some good shits in it so far and it hasn't clogged.

with the collor thing go with white it will always work. there is nothing like going into a nice new bathroom to see a vintage 1973 green stool :tonka:

when we remodeled I found and rebuilt a 1950's 5 gallon flush white stool when you flush that it does the job

Try to spend the extra $$$$ on an air assisted, or compressed air assisted one. Really helps to get the bowl empty

Its 4 gallon. The one I took out of my Grand Blanc house a few years ago was 4 gallons. I don't recall if I ended up scrapping it or if its in the shed.

dont buy the american standard all in 1 kit. it takes 3 flushes to move a piece of paper. I just put the old toilet back on minutes ago. It is an Eljer and seems to move mountains!!

i went to school at NMU, the dorm tolets could take a full roll of TP with paper wrapping on it. Or a beer bottle...when you flushed those you felt your hair move toward the seat.

The best flushing toilet I ever bought was the cheapest one Home Depot had. It was on an end cap and the whole toilet was like 60 bucks. It was super easy to modify so it flushes about 2 gallons. It will flush a small child.
