D44 Axle Upgrade...

Many of you chimed in a week or two ago when I asked about max tire size on my stock D30.. Now I'm wondering about the stock D44 out back.. I was thinking of picking up a SUPER44KIT with the ARB air locker from Superior Axle and Gear.. but I just found out how much it costs!

How big a tire can I go on my stock D44 *IF* I plan to stick in a locker.. Since the general consensus on my D30 question has me planning on going with 33's so I don't tear up my unlocked D30, will the stock axles in the D44 handle locked 33's?

Thanks to all the GL4x4 members for all your help...

Ingersoll113 pounds a 37 on 44s, never had a problem.
4x Fanantic runs 39s on 44s, but his are souped up.

I personally would run a 37, but probably not much bigger. It really all depends on the abuse that it is going to see.

Rear 44 is beefy enough for michigan, unless you want a lot of HP and <37s

I plan on getting my rig down to the badlands next summer... I had it at Paragon before we moved out here and want to get it back on some rocks.. so, the locked D44 on 33's will (hopefully) see some rocks..

I ran 33s on a locked 30/35 combo with no breakage down there. You should be fine with 33s on a 44.

I ran 38s locked front and rear on a D30 and D44 with stock shafts. Never broke a shaft yet.

I think 37" would be safe but depending on your wheelin style you could prolly go as high as 38's. I plan on putting 37's on my front 44 and will upgrade to alloy shafts as they break.

You'll be totally safe running the 33's.

Wheeling style? like never.Just pushing it out of the garage?

there are othert things to take into consideration ,wheel bearings ,brakes and the fact that he wants to lock it up.I would say 33'' and maybe 35'' if you you were smart on the trail ie. winch ,backup and don't ever say 1 more time (try) is the max for 30/44 combo for a trouble free summer of wheeling.

Shouldn't have any issue. I have never broken a 30 spline axle @ the Badlands with 34s to 36s in over 100 trips since they opened.

Your D44 will be fine with 33s
