Default EFI for an old 460

I'm looking to put fuel injection on my old school 460. I have done some performance work on it (cam, headwork, pistons, headers, intake) and like the way it runs. Now I would like to add some sort of injection without loosing any performance.

Can anybody tell me if the EFI system off the late 80's and early 90's 7.5's can be made to fit/work on a early 70's 460 with DOVE heads?

I think the heads are different but im not sure. Have you checked out fullsizebronco.com. There is some good info on there. I can get you the Holley Commander EFI system for like 2g but it is really nice.

The newer efi intake will not work with the DOVE heads. You will have to convert an old style intake. Many people do this swap with Mustang hardware on an old style manifold. Do some searching over at 460ford.com

The Holley set up is looking like the most cost effective way to go right now. Everything I'm finding is saying the ports are drasticly different on the ford EFI intake. Most guys in my situation are welding injector bungs on an aftermarket manifold or building adapters for the efi upper and building their own setup. That sounds expensive and over my head. I'm stuck in the 70's when it comes to engine management systems.

I can do carbs and that's probably where I should stay for now, but the draw of injection is getting stronger.

It's not that difficult if you do the research. If you plan it out you can do it with mostly stock parts that keep costs down. The Holley system is nice, but I have seen many guys use the factory stuff just as well for around half the money. I checked into doing this for my TFS A headed 557 a while back...

If you go with the Holley make sure you get the Commander. Do not get the Pro-jection. the projection is junk. The Commander is digital and is the only way to go. Just my .02

Howell. Good pricing, Very nice people to work with, very accomidating. They made a couple of oddball systems for me and burned the PROM for the engine specs.

Ken,

x2, that is what I run, and I really enjoy it. I can run it at literally every angle, (well except completely over, havent tried that yet) and it still runs great for me. The only issue is sometimes it cranks a little bit more to get it started, but when it runs offroad, I have seen no carb that compares. For the cost, I dont think that it can be beat

if you do a little digging they used to make a hilborn set up for 429/460/494 back in the early `70s. if you can search for a 494 canam engines and you might find a link to one.

Off camber and also fast over rough terrain. The truck avenger just looked too good to be true. I figured that it wouldn't be hard for them to make huge improvements over the old holley carbs, but that would put them in the league with the motorcraft and auto lite that i already run. I have a friend that has a 670 avenger on the shelf in his garage. He was never happy with it but was the first to admit that he did not know how to tune one. I guess I should borrow that and see how how it works. Yours was impressive Drummond.

Thanks for all the info everbody.
