Default Waterford "Trails" Next to I-75..

So like.. a month ago.. I was driving back from my Grandpas house in West Bloomfield, and coming up Dixie about to go on I-75, I look over, and I see a Jeep on some two tracks next to the road.

I've seen those two tracks before, but forgot about them.

If your traveling north on Dixie, right before 75 on your right theres a little "parking lot" of types, and theres perfectly cut two tracks coming off it. Next to the parking lot is a neighborhood, and if you go a little into the neighborhood, another two track comes out onto the main road through.

There are NO "no trespassing" signs anywhere to be found. Theres just a little dirt lot, and some two tracks coming off it.

I turned around and followed the other Jeep through it, and basically, theres a whole series of little trails back there, that don't really go anywhere. They parallel the freeway for a little bit.. and go up some pretty steep hills.. a lot of mud and water back there... A lot of garbage...

Anybody know what it is? If its anything, it looks like people use it to dump garbage (which is obviously illegal). But the two tracks are very deeply grooved.. Like a lot of people have been back there before. But theres not really enough trails for anything to actually go on back there. I wheeled every trail back there to see if I could see anything.. and it took probably half an hour or 45 minutes.

At one point, I was behind some of the houses in the aforementioned neighborhood, and there was a bunch of people out BBQ'ing and using a pool, they looked up, saw me, and went on like it was no big deal.. I had my windows down, I was going pretty slowly, I was pretty close to them, they could have easily yelled at me, but they didn't.

Obviously this isn't a state sanctioned ORV area.. nor is it anything spectacular for wheeling... but I just wanted to see if anybody else knew anything about this area.. or what its there for....

I've wondered about that too but never been brave enough to drive back there. As close as it is to 75, I'd say that most of it is state owned.

That is private property actually owned by Dr. O'neil from clarkston. VERY illegal, and I've driven past there on more then one occasion with oakland county parked with their blue lights on, hopefully giving out tickets.

He sold most of that property a whileback, and that is where they made the subdivision you have there. The rest couldn't be sold for future "RIGHT OF WAY" for the expressway.

Hmm.. weird..

Its interesting cause as deep and as well cut out as those trails are.. you'd think people had been wheeling there for years.. I bottomed out a few times in my jeep (stock height) cause they were so well dug in..

Yeah, when I was 16 I used to wheel back there too. A lot of people do.

Its a crap shoot if you get a ticket, and since its illegal, I no longer go back there.

Yea.. I prolly wont go back there again if its illegal.

Can they give you a ticket for wheeling on two tracks that aren't marked no trespassing? Just wondering..

Yes. It's still tresspassing, especially if you're talking about private property.

X2 on that area being an illegal place to be.

When I used to drive back there, I had no clue about random two tracks being illegal. It wasn't in drivers training, and it wasn't a very talked about law. Now that I'm in the sport, I know the importance of proper land use.. Since the DNR doesn't take a pro-active stance on educating people, the only other way is word of mouth, or correcting people's mistakes.

There are alot of places like that, all are illegal.

When I was a kid we used to ride dirtbikes in the woods on the south side of M-59 by dequindre and ryan.
Behind K-Mart at 10 and dequindre.

Back then the police would just tell you to leave. Not anymore.

I used to ride dirt bikes and snowmobiles in the field where Delphi is and off the ramp at Crooks and 75. Also where the new Wal Mart is going in East of Squirrel south of 59. And Tienken and Mead off Rochester.

But alas I became educated as well and would rather protect what we can use legally.
