I think gofastbobby is saying that by including George Carlin in the movie, they kind of discredited their research. It shows personal beliefs instead of presenting the information in an unbiased manner. It just kind of makes it clear that the filmmakers are trying to push their feelings on the audience.

Mike, I think this is the first time we agreed on something!!

It is very true. It cracks me up hoe the "pentgram" was made into this evil thing in the Middle Ages (I think thats when it was).

Vikings are made out to look like bad men. Quite often they were either protecting their homes or retaliating for attacks on them. The Christians wnated to religiously conquer the Pagans. They would build churches right over the tops of the Pagan temples.

It is amazing how many holidays are/were celebrated by both religions. The Christians just don't realize it. Some of the names for the days of the week came from the Pagans.

My Mom went to visit some relatives she has kept in touch with over the years in Sweden back in January(my great-grandfather was from there). SHe got to see a huge farm he worked on as a boy. He became a Baptist minister when he came to the US (through Ellis Island illegals!). I would love to visit Sweden and the other Scandanavian countries(their metal music scene is 10x better than the US also).

I was raised in as very Christian home and it more-than-likely gave me my strong sense of right and wrong and I have nothing against Christians. I believe in "religion" but I think they all get to a point where they are ridiculous; faith healers, Catholicism, wacko Muslims, etc.

George Carlin on saving gas:

Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use. The best way to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants! There would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down. Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the border. When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo and
ship him to Iraq. Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in the military. Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it. After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot. This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves. If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo. Problem solved.

there's a lot more interesting stuff in this movie than religion, that's only a 1/3 of it.

those historians were from the time of jesus, give or take a hundred years, check.

thats fair, i don't have time now to look at the past of all of these guys, but so far what i have found.

Apollonius?? which one?

Arrian. he wrote about alexander the great.

Damis. from wikipedia "Accordingly, it is difficult to tell how much of what Philostratus says about him is fact and how much is fiction, and many scholars have thought that Damis never existed at all."

Columella. he wrote about farming.

i will look into more of them later, but the first few examples i looked at held little, to no weight at all. looking at the writings from these historians, is like looking at a home living magazine for information about General Motors.

more to come later.

the point is, you can't really prove it either way, so go on believing whatever you want as long as you thought about it and it makes sense to you.
