Yep,

That's a pretty nice machine there. How did the filter fare?
I've had thoughts of building a Diesel Jeep, and now I have to . . .

I just have to track down a frame and a 4cyl Cummins . . .

Take care,
Phill

Well, wish me luck. I'm driving the '10a to work tomorrow. This is the first "long" trip (~16 miles).

See video on pg. 7 of this thread. I have also been driving this back & forth to work for about a week. It handles pretty well on the road, actually. I'll be swapping on some stock-sized Grand Wagoneer wheels/tires shortly to help fuel economy and reduce wear on the Swampers (saving those mainly for offroad).

I still have some minor stuff to do to it, but I'm just driving & enjoying it now. I can't wait until June 20th...Trail Junkie & I are taking it down to Windrock in Tennessee.

I finally read all the build specs after seeing the vid, yeah, had no clue it was a diesel. So after I read everything, this is definitely my favorite jeep build! Once again, BRAVO!

Thanks guys. Well, a week and a half until the first big shakeout trail ride at Windrock with co-pilot Trail Junkie. I expect it to perform decent, even though the rear doesn't flex out all that impressively. I attribute it to the new springs, and the short stock shackles in the rear.

Pics and possibly some video to come after Windrock.

Trail Junkie & I are back from Windrock. We had a great time, and did saw some great scenery.

Here are some of the pics. The first two are some of the moderate trails that we were on the first two days. The 3rd pic is Trail Junkie givin' the \/\/estside shout out. #4 is the Scrambler I rode in on day 3 (extreme trails). #5 is the trail we rode. It's called "Rattlerock", and is a 5+ on a 1-5 scale of difficulty. It was cool to run with the big rigs for a day, but it was VERY slow-going...not really my forte.

The next pic is a little friend we found on the trail...a ~3 1/2-foot timber rattler. We also saw a copperhead the 2nd day. These little guys made me think twice before jumping off in the weeds to go to the bathroom. They should have mentioned the snakes before we hit the trails (us out-of-state guys aren't used to looking out for this stuff).

The final pic is me with the Scrambler charity vehicle that we're giving away (tickets are $5 each). It looks AMAZING in-person.

Several people asked about it. The funniest was a guy in a Zuk who passed me rolling into the campground at the base of the mountain. In a serious Tennessee back hills accent, he just said, "What is 'dat?"

It performed every bit as well as I had hoped. Josh (Trail Junkie) prompted me to try some stuff that I otherwise probably wouldn't have (thanks), so I was pleasantly surprised by how much it would do.

An in-cab rollcage and a lighter/smaller front bumper are on the future wish list, BTW.

I didn't drive it down (Trail Junkie trailered it), but I got just over 20mpg around town for the month I drove it prior to Windrock. It's not quite as good as i had hoped for, but it's still respectable, IMO. It can easily handle 65-70mph on the highway, although it seems most comfortable at 55-60mph.

Thanks again for the great work, Brian and Daryl. I have received several comments about the quality of your work.

I didn't say it would do that in the mountains. :miff: In MICHIGAN (around Grand Rapids), it would drive well at these speeds. In the mountains, the uphills posed a challenge in high-gear on the road.
