Our IT cat was tooling around here last week with a guy sent from Lansing, trying to find out why so much bandwidth was being used, and all of the new computers being jacked up.

Streaming video will soon be gone. That will square up the bandwidth issue. And of course, no spyware protection on any of the hundreds of computers around here.

He doesn't sound too bright. Most places will dedicate a vlan and switch out for streaming video. Usually a first come first serve port by port basis or simply a reduced bandwidth connection. There's always a business need for video though to not totally disable the ports/protocols for streaming.

I work for the Dept. of Community Health. We don't really have any need for streaming video (mainly Youtube et al) at all. 90% of what's on youtube is pointless shit. We don't need to watch videos of people doing stupid shit because we deal with that everyday in person.
