Angry What is this world coming to?

Today is the fist time I have ventured into the pub chat area and man I really need to get this out. The state of the world is getting worse everyday. Our country is going to hell in a hurry. Politicians are liars, cheats and destroying our society. We are spending money we don't have on other countries while our Country crumbles. Michigan has become one of the crappiest states in the union. Unemployment is at an all time high with no real relief in sight. Gas prices, forclosures, inflation and war are all we hear about.

It seems like it is becoming near impossible to survive these days. Everything has become so expensive. I have been fortunate to still be employed, providing for my family is becoming more and more stressful. My wife is a stay at home mom and even if she had a job, the cost of day care and the Tax that dual income families pay, it would almost cost me more. There really is no benifit for the added bull. We don't have credit cards, just the basic's mortgage, one car payment. I drive beaters and still can hardly make it to the next paycheck. Taxes, insurance and utilities are devouring any and all remaing money I may have left.

These gas prices are insane, my weekly expense has more that doubled and I have for the first time in my life found myself driving a non US made auto. I have been working for the Japanees for the past seven plus years, because they seem to be the only ones hiring and not laying people off. I purchased a 92' Honda Accord to save money on fuel and have something depenable to drive. For $500.00 I couldn't pass it up.

I guess I really need to find something that will take my mind off all the shit we hard working people have to face. I tried drinking but that didn't work! DUH, well anyone got any suggestions?

I heard Germany once had a similar crisis. Then Hitler came in and took care of it. Maybe you could vote for Hillary next election. I hear she's starting a new Communist society this side of the pond.

Side work may be the only answer, to give yourself some financial relief. Unfortunatly your family life will suffer because of it.

I agree. I work nights and stay home with my 2 daughters while my wife works during the day. We have no car payments, no childcare expenses. We also somehow have no $$. At least not enough to do anything with. And the last couple days before payday is always a stretch. There is no faith to be had in politicians, and none of them seem to do anything to help out people on a day to day basis. Like you said, our country seems to have no problem passing out blank checks to other countries for unnecessary purposes. It is time to stop wasting our time and money on other countries and start investing in our own. But of course our opinions and ideas have no audience in our untouchable government. We (the public) are never even asked for our opinions. We just elect some crappy leader every 4 years and let them do whatever they want. I think I will move to Canada.

There is a HUGE black market on organs. If you and you're wife both sell a kidney, you could be rolling in a new truck!

It isn't that I don't have a sweet ride, or that I want Hillary for President! Crap, then this country would surly be done for. I think Between Clinton, and now what Bush has got us into we are in some real hard times and I think it is only going to get worse before it gets better. I am but at this point it doen't really matter what side you are on. Hillary is saying she is for free trade but there needs to be some rules set forth. Wasn't it her Husband who got that whole thing going? They are all crap!

I'm not for Comunisim or Socialism, hell I don't totaly know what they mean. I have an idea but I think at times our leaders need to step in, and stop some of this. Oil, well I won't hold my breath for Bush or Cheney to step in because, that would hurt their wallets. So make everyone suffer, how is it that gas prices just sky rocket! Demand? Well I think it is Greed. Instead of being real rich, No they need to be insanely rich. I live in Fowlerville and work in Farmington. Big difference in area as well as household income yet Gas is generally 10 cents or more higher than what it costs in Farmington. Hell somtimes I can save 20 cents by driving a half mile further down the road. What is that all about. We must just like taking it in the ass, thats the only thing I can figure. Whatever it is all relative, if you aren't struggeling then who cares.

Michigan use to be a great state with great times shared by many. I find myself asking the same questions as you guys. When is it going to stop? I live on the Michigan Ohio border and have had amny thoughts about poking into ohio just to live but hate the feeling! I also have a stay at home wife/teacher.

We sat back listing to all the school funds being cut and seeing our son sturggling in 4th grade. We started home schooling him and within one year of him taking his own pace he is breezing through 6th grade stuff. So I ask what is going on in the schools?

And don't just think it's in MI that people are hurting cause no matter where you go there are still weak areas out there. Just seems MI is the weakest.

I make ok money and still hard to not live pay check to pay check. The only thing that I have found to keep my mind out of the dumps is knowing I am married to a wonderful woman and I still have my family. Money can't buy that!

As do I. My wife has so much to deal with I really don't know how she does it. We have 6 children living under our roof. The oldest two are from her first marriage and actually she was pregnant with my stepson when she got divorced. My stepdaughter was 4 and I will say it has not been easy with her. She had a hard time with the seperation of her parents and her father living in San Antonio, being so far away really has been hard. I can't imagine what it must be like. My parents are still together and had 11 kids. I am the oldest and actually my youngest sister is only a year older than my step daughter. Now my oldest just turned 14 and I must say it really is becoming hard. Then add 4 more into the mix and one being permanently handicapped my wife has her own full time job. In ways I am lucky I go to work every day because I am not strong enough to deal with all that.

And the Schools, man what a sad state our schools are in. My hat comes off to the men and women who stive to teach our children. My dad is a teacher so I know what it means, He taught High School (Math and Science) for 11 years and has now I think 25 years with OCC. He is a great man, though when I was younger I didn't think so. But now that I am a parent I can truly appreciate all the times he had to deal with my rebelious butt. But life was a bit easier then though it really wasn't that long ago. We got our share of spankings and oh yes we deserved it. Now we have this society of time outs and reasoning with our two year olds. Why do we have all the problems in our schools with shooting and violence? We aren't allowed to be parents to our children anymore. I read an article about spanking our children in Time several years back and the short of it said this. The trend of time outs and studies done showing the benifits were misleading. The majority of the kids being punished with that method were mainly from dual parent homes, higher income. The children being spanked were mainly in single parent lower income level families. So the children not being spanked excelled over those being spanked. What they ultimatly found children that were spanked from time to time and were from dual parent homes also excelled and even were higher than those of non spanking methods. Kids up to a certain age in developement can't understand no, or reasoning. You must get their attention, and a swat to the behind will get their attention and put a less desirable experience to a certain action. But ultimately we need to show our kids, love and how to respect their elders, peers, and themselves.

Our handicapped daughter is in third grade and attends a special needs class. The school just had their 3rd grade field trip and took the students to the Zoo. We got a call from the school about a week before the trip in regards to our daughter. She had been talking about this for several weeks and was so excited. The school told us that they decided they wouldn't be taking a bus with a lift. That three busses would be enough to take all the students, teachers and help. But if they took two regular and one lift bus there would not be enough seats and a fourth bus would be needed and did not want to make that expense. They told us that we could drive her and follow the buses or she could stay behind at school or be allowed to stay home that day. What a bunch of crap! I pay taxes, and we even provide the school with all the equipment our daughter needs on a daily basis though by law they are supposed to have or purchase those things. From walkers, special seats and other things we have saved our school system tens of thousands in doing this and they have the nerve to expect our daughter to not go. If we couldn't take her she wouldn't have gone and they were fine with that. Our economic status has become so bleek that we are losing more and more of the rights and privelages our country is all about.

I think one day I am gonna sit down and write a book about all the things we have had to go through. I am going to be 34 next week and I have already dealt with more crap than most people that are retired and twice my age.

The part that gets me about all this is the "cut this, cut that" talk. But, never, ever, do you hear of the polititions and law makers taking a cut! If they aren't doing their damn job, they deserve a pay cut! If you performed you job poorly, would you have the option to vote yourself a pay raise? Those jackass's that "run things" are too damn power drunk to change things for the better.!

Sounds like George W's "No child left behind" is working pretty well! What a joke. Why should leaving your daughter out of a field trip ever be an acceptable decision? That is unbelievable.

If the polititons want to show the people of Michigan, that they can and will improve the state. Than they need to first take a cut in pay before doing any other cuts or increases of our tax's

And the type of pension plans they receive is insane. I don't know if I have this totaly right but I think Drew and Mike were talking about this one day. If you are govenment elected official and only serve one term. Your pension is like almost the match of your yearly sallary the rest of your life. Something like that, I don't know if that is once you are of retirement age or starting the end of your term and are not re-elected. And some of these officials have some heafty sallaries. Also some of the superintendents in the state make more than the State Superintendent. Over 200k a year and what do they do? While the teachers in my oppinion are not compinsated enough. Well most teachers, I have met some that I wondered if they should even be considered teachers or just glorified babysitters.

i just want to know why michigan is struggling so bad, and the rest of the nation is expiriencing record low unemployment rates. WTF?

how does granholm think that raising the state income tax is going to help? more people, more businesses and more jobs will just leave for other states.

Another thought on Michigan. Think of how much more tax is collected for lake front property as compared to non-lake front land. How much lake front proerty does Michigan have?????????????? Whos pocket is that lining????????

the sky is falling, the sky is falling.:dunie:

reality check...

there have been other, bigger wars throughout history, eventually they ended and life went on.
Politicians have always been liars and cheats, nothing new there.
One state has to be the crappiest, it just happens to be this one right now
Unemployment is NOT at and all time high, not even close. Go here: http://data.bls.gov/PDQ/servlet/SurveyOutputServlet and look at the data for the early 1980's

As for having to live paycheck to paycheck and struggling to make expenses I think we're largely done that to ourselves. Most people seem to have forgotten the difference between "want" and "need". A house in the country is a "want". I'm tired of hearing people who drive 40 miles each way from the country to the city complain about how much it costs them in gas to make that drive. I guess you should have thought about that before you moved into an area with few jobs around it. It's your demand for gas that keeps the price high. Cable/satilite TV, cell phone, high speed internet, big car, big houses, large country lots... as much as many people think they "need" these things, they are still just "wants". People lived without these things for years, they could again.
