Default forget Boycotts...lets try this

gas prices...we all bitch....but what can we do? We GOTTA have it. there is no way around it. I read in some history books though about this thing called The Boston Tea Party, sounds like those Americans had some balls. So how bout this one....forget the boycott...it wont work. What if we could assemble a couple hundred thousand or more motorists around the nation (more the better) at a certain time, on a certain day, no matter where you may be, we just shut them off. Shut them all off. We have all the active people involved, we also every other motorist involved as well. in a large enough group, we could literally shut off entire sections of this nation. And we tell The Man that we aint startin em til we get 1.85/gal.....guarenteed. they cant write enough tickets...hell they can only tow so many...I visualise Big Mac, The Golden Gate, any and all major roadways plugged with thousands of cars, trucks, even semi's. Why do we get bent over the oil drum and smile. Yes we complain but its time to really DO something to get the attention of the Big Oil Boys. How in the Hell can you go on tv and tell us how roughit is for your companies this week, when only weeks ago you celebrate 60 BILLION in profit? enough ranting by me.................your turn

they aren't gouging us, people over consuming more than they can make.

and sure their profits are huge, but if lets say you have a 40% profit margin.

so at $1/gal there is 40 cents of profit. now at $3/gal, there is $1.20 profit

and you sell more gas because people are addicted to your product like a flint hooker on crack, thus more money.

And thier margins aren't even that fat. The last I seen thier margins were unchanged and they were making less in GP margin than we do at my company.

The problem is that many people don't know the difference between profit and a profit margin. They see $60bil dollars profit on the news and get pissed, not realizing that represents about ~9% profit margin, an average return in business.

Most Americans are ignorant.

Boortz broke down the math here it is.

Quote......

"According to the AAA, one year ago the price of regular was $2.929. Today that price is $3.114. That's an 18.5 cents per gallon increase over the past year.

Now we go for the average gas mileage for cars in the U.S. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that as of 2004 the average mpg for new cars sold in the U.S. was 24.7. In 1980 it was 23.1. So, to make a point here, we're going to go even below the average price for 1980. We're going to use 20 mpg.

Now ... for those of you who went to government schools, I'll do the math for you. You're driving your family of four 1400 miles to get to Disney World and back. That means you'll be burning 70 gallons of gas at 20 mpg. The gas is now 18.5 cents more expensive than it was last year. Let's go ahead and round that UP to 20 cents. So, we burn 70 gallons and each gallon costs 20 cents more than it cost last year. That's going to cost you an amazing $14.00.

Oh My God! What an incredible tragedy! What a devastating blow to your finances! You're going to have to spend $14.00 more to drive your family to Florida this year than you did last year! That's $3.50 for each family member! How in the hell are you ever going to be able to afford this? Alert your local radio station news department! Call the newspaper! Sound the alarm! Americans are being crippled by these rising gas prices! Call your politician. Something has to be done about the evil oil companies! Get the government involved! We need more regulation!

Oh .. and you people driving to and from work need to be outraged too! Are you doing your share of the whining?

The average commute to and from work in this country is 16 miles. Now of course we know that cars don't get the mileage on a stop-and-go commute as they do on the road, so we're going to lower the gas mileage figure from 20 to 15. So, you're driving 32 miles (on the average) to get to work and back every day. That is gobbling up about 2.13 gallons of gas. Go back to that 18.5 cents per gallon increase over last year and you'll see that you're spending about 40 cents more for gas for your commute this year than you were last year. That would be about $2.00 a week. Less than the price of a decaf skinny latte at Starbucks. A lot less."

...End quote

Let's load Boston Harbour with billions of gallons of fuel and light it!

That will teach them to take us seriously!

I call BS..............I don't know about you, but I have cut my fuel down to about 20% useage from what it was 5 years ago, and I know several people who have done the same...............if I hear this line again, I'm gonna blow.

Get off your high horse, there are people who are strugglin' with this, and then there are people getting more fat. The oil is there to use,...........I'm callin' BS on all of the oil/gas Futures usage.

well yes, given their quantities i am sure their profit margin is quite a bit lower, but the math was easier than 11.56974%

It would be way easier to just forcibly take the gas from the arabs.

or drill in alaska
