we probably aren't drinking from the same type of bottles...

I just measured the seal/cap combo on the 20 oz mt dew bottle sitting here in front of me, and it's a solid 3/4" tall.

I don't know about your method of drinking from a bottle, but I generally don't engulf the bottle or attempt to bottom out on it when taking a drink...

I also don't use glass bottles, as I have kids, and they tend to break the empties, or bash each other with them, or cause other mayhem that is easily avoided by shopping plastic bottles.

Finally, I do tend to at least wipe off the tops of bottles as well - the delivery trucks that apparently stock the grocery stores where I shop, and/or the vending machines I frequent must be quite filthy, cause the white tops generally have a layer of greyish mung on them that I prefer to not get on my hands anyway.

*shrug*

no doubt. I also rinse/wipe off the beer bottles, that are stored sideways in the fridge.

Believe it or not, I even wash my hands before eating, and every time after using the bathroom...

I know, I know, something I suppose quite a few people don't do... in fact, a former manager here used to take his lunch with him into the stall...

it's been a few years, but he also had a penchant for licking the catsup off of the side of the bottle in pontiac area restaurants after pouring it...

he also was witnessed washing his golfball, inside his own mouth...

truly, he was a disgusting man in so many ways.

I know the story is a urban myth, but I researched the disease anyway...pretty much you'll only die if you have a depressed immune system, or if you absolutely refuse to go to the doctor. (but even then it's still rare)

"Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals. It is caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. In humans it causes a wide range of symptoms, and some infected persons may have no symptoms at all. ... If the disease is not treated, the patient could develop kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure, and respiratory distress. In rare cases death occurs."

"The time between a person's exposure to a contaminated source and becoming sick is 2 days to 4 weeks...The illness lasts from a few days to 3 weeks or longer. Without treatment, recovery may take several months." -CDC website
