The only other thing that they might have put under there would be a 7.5 which i highly doubt. I would bet on it being an 8.8

If you want to check though go to this website and check against what the diff covers look like.

check the tag hanging off one of the diff cover bolts, that will give gear ratio and wether its an open carrier or a trac loc. Most EB's that i have seen are 3.73 Trac Loc axles.........if it was the bottom line on the tag would read 3L73

i've NEVER seen a factory 7.5 in an Explorer. You might wanna look for a 95+ ex axle, then you would get the rear disc brakes.......however if you use the drum brake 8.8 its simple to upgrade to the factory disc brake stuff after the fact

That's because they were never offered under the explorer's - ford never offered them under it because 1) explorers never came with anything smaller than the 4.0 for the motor (and think, all 4.0 rangers have the 8.8) and 2) they're heavier than a ranger

the axle code is also preinted on the drivers door jam. It will be a 31 spline 8.8. Only question is gears and carrier

What is the largest tire size a person could run on a Ford 8.8, 3:55 gears?
Would a 33-10.50-16 be to large of a tire?

There are a lot of guys runnnig 33s on an 8.8. MonkeyBiz and KSEJeeper beat the piss out of their 8.8s in the Badlands, both on 33s with no problems. I am doing an 8.8 swap in my YJ, and I am going to run 35s.

I'm running 35's and show no mercy. They are like 2.5 times stronger than the Dana 35. RB
