This makes me wonder. What about if I have gears from a TJ that I want to put in my XJ. I have a low ratio carrier as well. This could be bad news for me. If so, you will find 4:88 Yukon gears in the "Parts for Sale" forum very shortly.

If your XJ is ~97.5 or newer (i.e. low pinion with crush sleeve) it should work. Otherwise, no.

Then no, you need gears from a YJ.

There are 3 major classes of Dana 30 gears:

CJ style, which are low pinion with shims
YJ style, which are high pinion with shims
TJ style, which are low pinion with a crush sleeve

None interchange.

In general, theres a lot of wierdness in there. Some 98s are high, some low, some 2000s are high, some low.

I must be thinking of our 2000, then. For what I'm seeing, its some of the 2000s and the 2001s that supposedly switched to the LPs.

I had too many of those XJs..

Since yours is high pinion, correct, TJ gears won't work for you.
