Only problem is the group/people I believe to be the ones that did this or made the video probably will keep doing it and ignore anyone saying anything about how bad a light it puts the rest of us in. There are a few videos out there, I only can recall one that put me off right at the beginning, the rest, well, the UP is a big mud pit.
You can go to the advisory meetings, they are free and open to the public. I will tell you beforehand, they are generally pretty boring. Even the more sprited ones are a snore-fest. Not to take away from their importance, but it's no guitar hero party.

Can we offer up the thread where the site lambasted the dork for the other illegal activity?
Heres the videos. I have copys of these on gl4x4's server in case they are removed from Youtube.

I'm sure someone can yank the license plates off these videos, and post up a screen shot.

This one is just plain ignorance, and the kid "pushing on the roof" of the burban is clear evidence that these people do not wheel alot. As if hes going to help that 5500 pound truck stay upright

That actually used to be a trail, but yes, it was closed down last fall (a logging company bought the land). It's bermed off and marked now.

On our 4x4 club forum we were actually thinking those are the video's in question also.

While I have reservations about posting the links, I do feel that the fourwheeling community, whether it be novice or veteran, can learn a lot.
Case in point, the laws that govern what/where we can go are vague at best. The DNR officers themselves interpret the laws differently. This variability from the Lower peninsula to the Upper is night and day. The home office in Lansing sometimes doesn't see it that way. Their viewpoint is that the laws are being enforced unilaterally.
These video's demonstrate the need for further education not only from our own rank and file but from the DNR themselves. GLFWDA has tried to participate with the DNR in the education process but their focus has primarily been with the safety and education aspect of the 2 and small 4 wheel audience. Billboards on I-75 had been put up in previous years to serve as their attempt to 'get the word out'. Personally I never saw them.
The DNR meetings are open to all. You get to speak your peace, but don't expect an answer, it's not a 'Q&A night with the DNR'. If you get any reply from them it's courtesy only or they may quiz you further if their really interested in your statements. Going their with a chip on your shoulder like some have done in the past is a sure fire way for the DNR Advisory Board to hold you to 5 minutes max speaking time and potentially get booted out if your disruptive. The point GLFWDA, Rustbelt, Over the Hill Gang, Sundowners, Two Trackers (and any other group I might have forgotten) just try to make each meeting is that 'WE ARE OUT HERE, and WE NEED A PLACE TO PLAY'. You have to be in the forefront of their minds otherwise you'll fall off the radar. It's one of the reason we've gotten some money for Rock Course Studies @ both St. Helens and the Mounds. (Which is moving slowly and I'll have an update in a few weeks)

Back to the video's, I've only looked at the second one. So, myself or Trail_Fanatic will follow up with those guy/gals. I haven't looked at the first one yet so we'll address that later. These might be to one's the DNR is looking at. Maybe not. What I do know is the last time we were on the DNR calendar they weren't throwing a party!
P.S. If the links go dead, it may be that the video's have been removed.

From a corrective action standpoint, I would like to get in touch with the posters of the videos to first get them removed, and second, to have a converstion with them to bring about an understanding that what their doing is not only illegal, but damaging to the environment and severly hinders our ability to work with the DNR and other land managemetn agencies in the state to develop legitimate use areas. Loss of vehicles, fines, and possibally jail time could be levied against them. Not to mention, the MCL violation for most of these actions is a Misdemeanor, NOT a Civil Infraction. Way worse for your record.

The flowing river really adds fuel to the fire. I was told there is a video with a yellow scout that is not good. Anybody know about that one?

Okay, hello all, I am the President of the MTU 4 wheelers for next year and am basically doing the current presidential stuff. First I would like to say that these people wheeling boyscout are not members of our club. Though, we will end up blamed for it I am sure, as that is the way things go in this area. The trail they are wheeling is currently bermed at both enterances, and has a sign posted no vehicles allowed. This happend from the beginning of September last year. At the time these videos were made, there have been a few non club members who have told me they wheeled the trail, and have been repremanded. I will do a longer writeup of the exact situation hopefully tomorrow night when I have more time (exams, work, lab reports, etc are killing me right now). I am going to try and contact the DNR and get confirmation of the exact video, and if it is these guys I will track them down and talk with them. If you have any questions or concerns please PM me and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner. Thanks, Christian Riedel

Okay guys, I just got off the phone with the Steve Kubisiak from the DNR, and it is in reference to a video of the Cedar River area down in Escanaba. So it isn't the Boyscout videos as posted, though I believe them to be illegal still, which is why I was hoping they wouldn't be posted so I could deal with the students myself. I will see if I can find the video on youtube and post it up here for you guys. Thanks, Christian

Here is the video I found of Cedar River:

I agree that these videos should be available as what not to do.

HOWEVER
it might be wise to edit them so there is a watermark on the video that states what is being watched is illegal and should not be done. Is it possible to edit the video to say something like that. Otherwise, if it's hosted there's nothing saying it won't get downloaded and rehosted someplace and sometime down the road without the "this is illegal and shouldn't be done" message.

Just a thought.

What was that sign on the right at the very beginning of the video? It almost looked like a "No ORV's" type of sign, but I'm not sure.

i think that sign does look like an ORV closed sign .

MTUJeeper- I remember reading about the Boyscout trail being closed, and you are right those videos are also illegal, if you need any help with the MTU Club, let me know, I will be up there next year.

I also remember seeing a video of some people playing in the water out on shale beach on Drummond Island, not too long ago...that would be illegal as well. This seems to be a growing problem in the UP, as many people believe that they can just escape the DNR when they go there, and dont have to be concerned with wheeling illegally...and that is NOT the case
