Default Illegal wheeling video in the UP

Just got word that the DNR has stumbled into a U-Tube video of some illegal wheeling in the UP. It's on the agenda for the next ORV Advisory Board meeting. At this time we don't have any idea what they plan on doing with it.
We're trying to locate it. Has anyone seen anything like this? Just want to be prepared if/when the DNR Chief starts to berate us. Any help in locating it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I wouldn't publicize this any more than necessary. The less said, the better.

Pat, check with JM. I talked with him this morning. You should talk to him.

I know the video in question and it was definitely illegal. The problem was they didn't know that what they were doing was illegal. The person in the wrong now knows it was wrong and won't be doing it again.

IMO it is better to put the video in this thread, and show people what you SHOULDN'T do. This would help inform people what gives 4x4 folks a bad name

Are these guys mowing over trees, shooting spotted owls, and eating eagles? When information is not presented, minds wander to think the worst.

I've now been forwarded a copy of the video, and it isn't that bad, even though its illegal. I think it would be a could learning tool for new wheelers.

I'll post it if Jim says its ok, otherwise I'm not.

Although I agree that everyone should be able to see what is deemed "illegal", my advice is to hold off till after the meeting with the DNR. This video has been put on the agenda to attack GLFWDA at the upcoming ORV advisory board meeting.

PLEASE allow GLFWDA to develop a plan "in private" to deal with this issue.

Many people say "what does GLFWDA do for me?". This may be one of those situations.

To publicize this at this point and get too much dialog under way may be counter productive. Especially if people start spouting off about it. Don't for a minute think that the DNR is not aware of this web site.

I caution patience.

99.9% of this site wheels legally, and advocates legal ORV use in . If someone is dumb enough to do illegal things on the trail, and then posts the video on the internet, then they probably didn't know what they did was wrong. This is the chance for US to use our voice to openly condemn illegal actions, since the DNR only chooses to educate people with tickets, and that usually is to late.

If you keep the video hidden from everyone, not only does it make others wonder what they did, but it doesn't teach others, especially new people to the sport what is right, and what is wrong.

Its items like this that I believe should be publicized as being wrong, and showed to everyone so that people can learn.

I've been on countless trips where people didn't know what is legal, and what isn't. Once the mass of ORV users are educated on this, I think in the long run it would give a better standing to the government who controls the legality of the sport.

And the comment about the DNR, maybe I'm the only one, but I wish they would be more active, and more importantly INTERACTIVE with the four wheeling community in this state. Nowhere is there a place to engage in conversation without traveling to the meetings that do not always meet the time restrictions of the working man.

I agree that this site advocates legal wheeling. I also agree that it "should" be shown.

The only full size users that attend the ORV advisory meetings are members of GLFWDA and sometimes Rustbelt. Since it has been put on the agenda by the DNR, it indicates that they intend to use it in a negative way. I am merely suggesting that we wait until after we hear what they have to say. Then post it up and flame away!

Yes, more dialog with the DNR would be great. However, it appears that it is nearly impossible to draw them out of their protective environment of meetings run by them.

As far as people on this site knowing what is legal or not in , it would be easy for you to put this on the home page: If you are on state or federal land other than ORV areas or trails and spin your tires, you are acting in an erosive manner and can be ticketed.

It would be nice to see what GLFWDA does at these meetings without paying the $45.00 to be a member.

You can go to the advisory meetings, they are free and open to the public. I will tell you beforehand, they are generally pretty boring. Even the more sprited ones are a snore-fest. Not to take away from their importance, but it's no guitar hero party.

Can we offer up the thread where the site lambasted the dork for the other illegal activity?

I personally went to a DNR metting here in Grand Rapids, i saaw the postings for the meetings on GLFWDA so thought that my "Click" should attend and voice our opinions and poss. meet members of GLFWDA. But to my disaappointment their was nothing discuseed or even related to ORV use and when we got our chance after about an hour and half of waiting to talk, we had an officer pull us into the hall while the meeting was going and blow sunshine up our @$$, and their was nobody their reprensenting any ORV use other then us

i would like to veiw this video PM?

Can someone with a youtube account pm me? I'm going to send you the link to the video so you can rehost it into your own account, then we will post it up. If I posted the link now, i'm sure it would be deleted by the author.

After some offline dialog with CC and others, we all agree it should be posted so people understand the issues. I have also found out that there may be more than one video. We have asked the DNR for clarification of the specific video in question. No response yet.

So............ the video about to be released MAY or MAY NOT be the video in question.

Correct. I have been sent a list of four videos, and they are all on youtube.

I just need someone to rehost them before I post the link
