Default Abstinence Only Sex-ed doesn't work...surprise surprise!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/EDUCATION/04....ap/index.html

Shouldn't it stand to reason that this is true? I mean, come on, if a kid really wants to have sex, he or she is going to do it, regardless of what they are taught in school. At least if we taught more than just abstinence, kids would be prepared and taking less of a risk of getting std's including AIDs, or getting pregnant. Sheesh...silly bible thumpers in high political power. They'd probably rather not mention "that filthy act" at all. I suppose to them it's just a shameful little ritual to make babies, and anyone who does it for any other reason is disgusting sinner.

No they like doing that filthy little act but not talking about it. Went over to the neighbor's house about a year ago to get my ladder back. She invited me in while she looked in the laundry room for it, and began a typical jesusfreak spiel about why my "fuck you, you fucking fukc " t-shirt and my pentagram necklace were going to send me to hell.
Then her voice died off, as she noticed me holding the DVD entitled "Rectal Mania" that I'd found on her coffee table.

I don't think they should ONLY teach abstinance. They should educate about sex, and THEN teach why it is wise to wait. But the teacher should not be some lame-o

Well I grew up with the hush hush when it came to Sex. and I was married at 18 with a child on the way. My Daughter I talked about sex with her, told her when she was ready to let me know and I would take her to the Doc. for Birth control and for her to talk to the doc about STD's etc.. and she was 25 when she married.

So I vote for the Parents to talk to there kids!! not up to Schools-Church-or any other public thing.

I agree....my daughter was on BC @ 15.....cause I KNEW she was going to have sex.....and did'nt want to raise her as well as hers......now she's happily married with a fine 2 year old.

For all the people who say that's wrong.....I hope your 15 year old doesn't get prenant

I'm not surprised at all. None of the rest of our education system is working, why should sex-ed be any different?

I remember sex ed. It was the most stupid thing I ever learned it school. I honestly think that I will withdrawl my child from sex ed and let them learn it from Mike and I. I don't want anyone else's values given to my children regarding premartital sex. I think there is a correct way to teach sex ed, but I am pretty sure the public schools arent effective in teaching it.
It wont matter though because our kids will not attend public school. We have already got a private school fund set up along with college funds for two kids.

Holy....many reports have been made about this and all said that you can't expect to make a change if you teach something once and do not follow up on it later.

Seems many of you missed that point.

The point of the study is to see how a program is working and how to make it better.
