Default Another what ratio question

99 XJ 4.0, aw4 with dana 30 front and chrysler 8.25 rear. Driven around town and on the highway, will also be wheeled when i can.

Im running 33's right now and at 70 or so on the highway it wants to down shift a lot, then hesitates before going back to 4th. it is fine up to 60 mph though, and runs at 1600 rpm or so.

After using different calculators im thinking 4.56 would get me close to stock with a little extra for the trail or if i want to put 35's on eventually.

4.10s will get you back to stock, but go 4.56 if you ever plan on going bigger, it'll make it more fun on the street anyways.

I have 4:56 with 35's and wish I would have gone with 4:88. A smaller ring gear and pinion will be putting a lot of stress on those little teeth though. I have had no problems with the 30 yet but I know it is the weak link right now so I use some common sense when I wheel. Start thinking 44 before you invest to much in the 30.

If you have a HP30, it will be ok, but since you have a 99 I am pretty sure that is LP. As for gears I would go with 4.56s. I will be moving up to 33s this summer with the 4.0 and plan on 4.56s.

I'd run 4:56's. I had them in my ZJ with 31's and 32's.

No I don't wheel My Jeep hasn't left Ironman Offroad since Oct.

That area is illegal to wheel on anyway. How are the bike trails there? I've seen lots of guys park to go biking, but never tried it.

You know they found a dead body in that area late last fall? A Mt. Pleasant lady who was missing for a year. My wife refuses to go hike back in that area now, until she gets her CCW.
