Default Site Problems

This place has been pretty bad lateyl, again tonight getting a bunch of web site errors, with this big white page talling me to contact the admin (daryl at jcroffroad :tonka:).

So, do you need more money for a better server or something? Like, advertise like hell to have people buy into the secret forum, then jack up the prices to $80 ever 3 1/2 months. I see a pattern herre.

still working out some issues with the new server.

I'm trying to learn this stuff, and do it myself. Eventually when I can't figure it out, I will have to ask Daryl for help.

Did your error have a big blue V in it?

I haven't seen an error

Well, for some reason this site is maxing out 2 gigs of ram at random times. Normally its around 240 meg. When the memory is maxed, it starts acting goofy. It will be totally fine, and then just spike. It sees this as an error, and restarts all the services which only takes a minute. I'm guessing you are getting these errors while its restarting. The site has maxed out the ram twice tonight, for no reason that I can tell. It happened 3 times yesterday. It seems to happen between 9-11 each night, but only during those times.

Well, if people are getting errors, thats all it could be. I've yet to see one. I do see automatic system restarts though.

right now, with 170 people logged in, the cpu is running at 4% .8 load, and the memory is at 7%.

I have to figure out what is causing it to spike.

Hey, just received an email from my hosting company that has been monitoring the server all night. It appears that the virus software that protects outgoing email is what is raping the memory.

GL4x4 sent out 13,000 emails yesterday. I forgot about thread subscriptions.

People who have subscriptions turned on, are you receiving them instantly, or are they arriving delayed?

yep. I know whats causing it, I just need to fix it.

The server scans for virus' as they roll in. During busy times (between 7:30-10:30) vbulletin is sometimes sending 30 emails a minute out as notifications. The virus software starts to get backlogged before it resends the emails out to the PM/thread subscription recipients.

I'm trying to find a faster virus program, and I'm talking with a couple people who own some very large vbulletin sites, and this has plagued them all.

There is an easy fix, but If for some reason the mail server was compromised, every user here could receive a virus via email, and that can't be allowed to happen.

I use, CA, works good, i haven't had any problem, just runs in the background and keeps my shit virus free. Plus it comes with 3 licences when you purchase it, so you can get 3 buddies together and make it even cheaper. I think it was around 70 bucks. www.ca.com if anyone wants to check them out.

Hrmm... I haven't been on the site much, but I am not really smart when it comes to linux server stuff anyway. I can move around through the file system and that is about it.

Let just ban all the stupid people.
