Default Does something sound wrong here?

I heard on the news today that gas stations are getting a grant to put in E85 pumps. Now, I know that E85 can be made from the corn that our farmers grow, but gas stations are getting a grant for it??

Why not just tell them, put it in or we will fine you. That could also be a great way to get some money into the state.

Here I sit, looking at no raise again this year(or the past 2 years), because the state is broke, but they are giving money to a gas station??

Like I said, I support E85 made with corn that is grown here in Michigan, but this just seems a little to much to me.

I believe this is federal money, not state.

Yes, everythink I've read says it's federal money, which still means our tax dollars.

From everything I've read all "corn to fuel" schemes are pretty much just farm subsidies, since the net energy gain from growing corn and using it to make vehicle fuel is minimal at best. All it will do it raise food prices and help framers make more money (not that thats a bad thing).

Why would framers make more money? Is it because rich farmers could build more barns with the money?

So I am currently pricing out our restaurant's menu for the upcoming season and I am told that all beef and chicken prices will be at least 20% higher than last year because of the governments push on corn to fuel. Evidently, much of the corn is going to these projects so it has raised feed prices. I have no choice but to pass on the cost.

No one gives me grants to serve/sell food that is raised on corn. I just knew I picked the wrong occupation, but right now I feel fortunate to still have one.

E85 is the biggest envronmental scam since global warming. Why would you further deplete the cropland of the country just to replace a small percentage of the fuel supply? Our average food supply is already so lacking in nutrition that it isn't worth eating.

Environmentalism, the new communism.

Corn to fuel is a poor gain, but other crops do better. Brazil is almost completely self sufficient on fuel because of bio-fuel. Sugar cane and other s work better.

I do agree there should be no subsidies. Make a mandate that so many cars/filling stations/whatever have to be produced. If you create a market and demand it will sustain itself. Fine the snot out of the oil companies with record profits to force them to come up with renewable clean fuels.

what about the free market and if a gas station wants to gain customers because they provide a demanded product then they can put in the E85 pumps themselves and have it pay off or flop on them either way...I dont understand why the government needs to be up in everyone's business...
