A Weekend to Support the Sport

Mark your calendars and join us April 21st and 22nd for two great events.

First Event - Day One

Saturday, April 21st, the Two Trackers Four Wheel Drive Club is hosting their 9th Annual Trail Clean Up in the Manistee National Forest of Muskegon County. This event serves two-fold. It aids the development of positive, collaborative, relationships between the National Forest Service, the Department of Natural Resources, and the four-wheel drive community, as well as removing tons of illegally dumped refuse from public lands.

This area is hit hard by illegal dumping because it acts as an urban interface between the Forest and the city of Muskegon. The Two Trackers and assisting volunteers from as far as Toledo, Ohio have already removed over 460 cubic yards of waste, 1,500 tires, over 60,000 lbs. of shingles, 3 abandoned vehicles (one stolen), and the makings of a meth lab. Come on out and have some fun while getting a dirty job done! See the EVENT FLYER (below) for details.

Second Event - Day Two

Sunday, April 22nd, the Two Trackers Four Wheel Drive Club and Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association are proud to welcome United Four Wheel Drive Associations Land Use Attorney, Carla Boucher to Michigan! She will speak about the top four-wheel drive issues facing Michigan and the Nation, the need for unification, support for the three-tiered system of representation, and address questions that enthusiasts may have, in an open forum, following the presentations.
Carla is deeply committed to the future of four-wheel drive opportunities in Michigan. She is currently assisting with the Appeal of the Huron-Manistee National Forest Plan to gain a more favorable position for our sport for the next twenty-plus years, opposing the unnecessary closure of roads through the Baldwin Ranger Districtís M-37 Project, and the development of the FIRST 4x4 Route within National Forest lands in Michigan. See the EVENT FLYER (below) for additional information.

Support the Sport

Take a weekend off from wheeling to support the future of wheeling in Michigan.

Join us April 21st and 22nd

The National Forest Service LOVES the Clean Up event.
It's been a GREAT way to let them know we're 'good guys' too.
It helps them get to 'know' us in another context, other than just the guys who write those loonnggg trail proposals in response to their projects.

The NFS 'guy' who handles our Clean Up is also the 'guy' I dealt with for the M-37 Project comments and one of the Baldwin District personnel I brought out on a trail ride to show them our chosen form of recreation first hand. His attitude toward us had been determined years before I took him out into the woods. It was formed through my continued yearly contact with him setting up this event. He (and MANY more, now) knows we're here to stay and are the type of people who can get things done.
In other words, the perfect candidates for a collaborative effort to get meaningful 4x4 trails designated in the Forest.

Don't know for sure that I can make it, but I'd definitely like to help. If I can make it, I'll need to find some kind of trailer though, don't think it'd be much fun with a bunch of trash inside the XJ.

A stock XJ should be fine, right?

Absolutely!

Show up, even if you can't come up with a little utility trailer. SOMEONE will have extra room, I'm sure. It always works out that way.

Even if you just follow their trailer and help them fill it.

Many times too many vehicles in the woods makes it harder to do the job. I always bring my F-250 long box with a 5x8 trailer in tow. Plenty of room for rider-helpers. When you get there try and hook up with one of us.

UPDATED INFO

Clean Up, Saturday:

Take I 96 west until it ends at Muskegon.
Then take US 31 North 5 or 6 miles to the M 120 exit.
It's the first exit north of the Muskegon River.
Turn right (North-East) onto M 120 and drive another 6-8 miles to the Twin Lake CarGo gas station.

Carla Boucher, Sunday:

I 96 west to US 31 North.
US 31 north to the Hart/ Mears (Polk Rd.) exit
West (Left) on Polk Rd until it ends at 56th (barely over 1 mile)
South (Left) on 56th to the STOP sign at Taylor Rd (0.5 mile)
West (Right) on Taylor Rd (the STOP sign) to the STOP sign at 34th (2.75 miles)
South (Left) on 34th 1 mile to the sweeping curve to the west (right)
CURVE west (Right) placing you on Hazel Rd (Hazel Rd is the 'main street' of Silver Lake)
West on Hazel Rd until it ends at Silver Lake.

NOTE: Do NOT follow the sweeping curve to the South (Left) at the party store "downtown"
Hazel continues in a STRAIGHT line!

Silver Lake is less than a city block after the party store/ curve.
The Dunes Waterfront Hotel is on the left.

Working on it, but I'm pretty sure I'll be there. Pat, I know last year you had a story in the Grand Rapids Press. Is TT or GLFWDA doing any kind of larger media promotion this year? PM me if you want some help with this.
