replace it

i dont see what taking the pads off would accomplish though if the bearing was bad

wouldn't chance it. Remember what can happen with bearing problems. Buddie lost a wheel and axle shaft down by woodward, plus if it does go you are putting others in danger. Think Tonka thought he would ever be in his accident on the way home from the mounds? Have BDR drag you over with his trailer, or wait and I'll help you with mine next week.

You would be an absolute idiot to chance it.

I had new bearings, and some sand got in there, and ate one bearing out causing me to loose my axle and wheel assembly.

Knowing that, why would you even think about chancing ?

Mr Clean mentioned another axle bearing issue I had that damn near killed me and others. And that was from a bad seal that I didn't know about.

Don't chance it. it's a $40 fix, and not worth your life!

I’m not 100% sure if my Dana 44 shafts will work for you. Seeing as how the retainers might be different, disc verses drum bakes I you want to try one let me know. Anybody know? Also is the driver side or the passanger side the longer shaft? That way I what one I need to bring. BTW my rig is a 04 Rubicon.

well i planed on Bill do everything all at the same time, so i know it would be done right(he has the parts already ordered). If i was to do it my self, what do i need/need to do. Im guessing remove wheel/break components, backing plates... Take axle to a shop and have old/new bearing pressed on...? i think im leaning on a trailer and truck for safety

cheap and dumb only looks smart if it works, and people in the know still think your dumb. Dont risk it skoot, if you know its bad, youll feel like the biggest asshole in the world if you wreck your jeep to save less than a $100. If you do worse and hurt your self or someone else for $100 then i dont even know what to say.... i would never forgive you if you crashed into me and crippled me or if you do it to yourself and you even knew it was borderline :miff: , i dont think your "that guy". Please prove me right.

I would tow ya but i dont have a trailer. I have the day off if that helps any.

Skoot, if that is a non c-clip axle, just take off your tire, undo the 4 bolts that hold on the shaft, and yank it out, cut off the bearing, press on the new one, and you are good to go. if you jack up the jeep enough, you won't even lose any dif fluid

Its a common trail fix taking about 45 minutes.

Even if you can't press it on with a press, hammer it on good, and straight, and bill will press it when you drive it there.

If that is a dana44, I have some axle shafts you can use, the only problem is all mine are 6 lug

If you need help in the morning, call me. if you can make it to my house, that is great, if not, let me know if you have tools and torches.

Or if we can't do it, I can get you a trailer, and we can tow it there.

Find someone with a AAA Towing and have it towed. :miff: they get 7 tows per year off each card. Card is on person not vehicle all they have to do is call the 800 # on the back of the card and no cash out of pocket.

Skooter i will try to find a trailer for tomorrow. When I replied to your PM I hadn't seen this post. I thought it was about your seal still leaking. I or someone will get it here tomorrow, don't waste your $$ trying to temp fix it. It will make it up onto the trailer the way it is. I will make a few calls in the morning give me a shout we may have to do it after you get back from the auto show.

If you have a D44 I have spare shafts/bearings in my shed. You can have one as long as you replace it before May. Call me in the morning fool.
