Evangelical War on Science

ok one more, this stuff is great...

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/0...ar-on-science/

The dinosaur stuff is just funny...but this is not:

[]But beyond that, one does not need to go searching for isolated British Muslim doctors in order to find examples of the lives of children being endangered due to the religious beliefs of adults. Merck, among other pharmaceutical companies, developed a highly effective vaccine against the human papilloma virus (HPV) by far the leading cause of cervical cancer in women but an entire American political movement called "social conservatism" has been desperately trying to prevent its widespread approval or at least persuade parents not to have their daughters vaccinated because HPV is a sexually transmitted disease and they therefore believe that a vaccine will be seen as an endorsement of premartal sex..

Well, while I don't agree with much of what the evangelical fringe has to say, bear in mind they have the right to say and believe whatever they want.

And if they choose not to innoculate their daughters against an STD, it's their choice. And if those daughters (upon turning 18) decide to obtain that innoculation, again it's their choice.

I am most vigorously opposed to some politican interfering with our freedom to choose, and telling us how to raise our children. If you ever have a daughter, by all means get her this innoculation if you so choose. Don't tell anyone else what to do.

first a little reading... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070131/...NlYwN5bmNhdA--

I think it's great that they developed such a vaccine for this and I would encourage every woman, my 16 year old daughter included, to go get it. I think the reasoning that partents shouldn't have their daughters get it becaseu they think it will encourage premarital sex is wrong and stupid.

However, I think it's also wrong for the government to require parents to have their daughters vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease before attending school. Also, if Merck really thinks it's so important that all young women get it why don't they take that money their spending on lobbiest to try and force it on people and lower the $360 price tag.

I also completely agree with this statement. I like having my rights under the constitution. I also don't like it when the government tries to take the important ones away.

you know...like habeas corpus.

thanks for clearing that up. Does anybody else think that name calling is necessary? I think it speaks volumes about your maturity level.

i don't think it would hurt anything if it was , just like all the other vaccinations...but i don't want to make anyone get something if they don't want it. I just think the reasoning for not doing it is pretty stupid.

In some cases, that is not the woman's choice, i.e rape.

No, YOU said abortion should be a "Choice" but a shot should not be a "choice".

I just find it funny what "Choices" you lib's think we should have.
