Check ebay, i scooped up a $1200 one last fall. It was a 180,000 mile engine, complete turbo to pan. It blew a month ago, so inspect them carefully...

Well, it's still in our F800. Once I find a new one, i'l probably junk it. It shot a rod thru the pan, so probably not worth messin with.

Seems you want information heres some for ya .

The 5.9 cummins was put in a lot of medium duty trucks , for some reason they do not put the cold start system on them but other wise they are the same motor . Oddly enough they are detuned as well in the medium duty trucks .

Dodge ran the motor in 99 at 235 hp , but only 215 hp with the auto trans . Ford put it in a lot of medium duty trucks , Chevy used cats until they put the duramax in them . and international trucks run there own .

Dont bother with IHC motors if this is for a wheeler , they larger and heaver then you would want . If this is for some sort of tow rig then a IHC DT 466 is the best small diesel truck motor you can buy bar none .

For smaller like the 5.9 again best in its class .

6.2 made by GM when they owned DDC.
6.5 made by GM after they sold DDC to Penske.

Does it have to be a Cummins 5.9? Theres Oldsmobile 350 diesels out there for dirt cheap.

If you really want fun, go for a 4-71 Detroit Diesel. Cheaper, and sound like hell on earth at high rpm(2 Stroke Diesel's do).

THe only thing the Oldsmobile 350 diesel is good for is a boat anchor.

You could use a cummins 4 BT

If you can't afford $1K for a Cummins, I don't know how you will afford to run 11s with it. You're looking at around $1200-1500 for one with a rotary pump.

I don't know how you blew up one of these things . . . Must have run low on oil at one point.

anyway, back to the thread...

You'll have a good amount wrapped up in one to make it go fast, but what you want is a 12 valve with the P-7100 injection pump. They look like a little mini 6 cyl engine hanging off the side, (kind of)
You'll be hard pressed to find one cheap though. Maybe in need of a rebuild. Usually a rebuild will only need pistons and bearings . . . maybe a re-bore depending on how hot the person got it/hot many miles are on it.

Good luck.

www.dieseltruckresource.com . . . Just start reading.
