Default Something gave..

The truck is a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4, 5.2L V8 with a chrysler 9.25" rear.

I was spinning the tires trying to get off my road when it was snow and ice and caught dry pavement. As soon as I hit the pavement everything disengaged, the speedo shot all the way to 120 and it just made these extremely loud ZZZZZZZZZ noise. Then it slammed like whatever was spinning caught and it moved.

Now anytime I go to get moving while turning and give it too much gas it'll do it again. Occasionally at speed you'll hear a metal clunk and it'll jerk to the left or the right. It's pretty much anytime you give it too much gas.

Sounds like to me you have done something to your ring and pinion... Maybe sheared some teeth... There is enough left to operate with light throttle.. But, with heavy accleration there isn't anought metal to grab... Just my .02

sounds like u sheered a couple teeth of the ring gear.. take it apart and look it over, no easy way out of this.. also if u wana be brave have someone do what u described and lay NEXT (but keep some distance) to the truck and watch the driveshaft..

since its doing it when you turn it sounds more along the lines of spider gears to me. im assuming that you have an open rear end tho. if you were spinning one tire its goin 2 times as fast as your spedo is reading so it would be real easy to rip a couple teeth off one of them. drop the cover and look it over really good.

Forgot to the part about having a lock rite.

There's no way to know without yanking it. Fully plan on something being broken in there.

Check the R & P, and the shear pins on the lock rite(and lock rite teeth)

I'll be popping the diff cover most likely today and as for an axle upgrade... I'm set with the Chrysler 9.25" right now

What's your problem?

You always talk like you were there to witness everything.

Actually the tires weren't spinning that fast. The slip lasted literally two seconds before they caught the pavement. And did I forget to mention I was at half throttle? If you try to say you've never spun the tires on ice then you're simply a liar. There's always that one time that you didnt realize it and something happens.

So before you start spewing your all knowing comments you should at least look into a situation further.

Fluid = brown and smells like dirt

A few metal shavings resting on the bottom of the diff and the teeth on the locker are slightly chipped (hence the metal shavings)

Ring and Pinion look good.. thank god

Time for a new locker - Already ordered a Richmond Powertrax No Slip

Axle needs a rebuild - Case is worn and the gap for the locker is way out of spec allowing it to chatter

New locker + new case + install kit + KillerB's time = bank account gonnnneee

why not just find a nice used Axle and upgrade to something stronger ??
