Default Something isn't right with the Search function

I got a Logitech G15 keayboard for Christmas that I'm having a problem with. I know I saw Skyypunk mention one somewhere int he past, so I began searching for it.
  • First I did an Advanced Search for "G15"
  • Then I did an Advanced Search for "G15" and filtered for "Skyypunk"
  • Then I tried the same thing again, making sure that I filtered for "posts" instead of threads, and verified that I was searching the entire post and not just the thread title.

I couldn't find the thread with any of these. Then I changed the keyword to "keyboard", filtered by Skyypunk, searched all forums, and this thread popped up. Look at the last word in post #5.

I know that certain search strings will be ignored, but I think that vBulletin always tells you yhat the search string is too short or too common in those instances. I get no error using "G15".

I have been having lots of problems using search too, sometimes on 5-6 letter words, so it isn't just small words...

I am unsure why you are complaining- you found what you were looking for.

wow,
http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthr...specific+posts

that was easy, and it even highlighted what I was searching for.

And my search ID number was 170,263. This means 170,262 searches happened before me. Do the math, You can't please everyone, but I have to think the 2 complaints are just people being crybabies.

Ok, one instance I ran into problems was trying to find pictures of silverxj's Cherokee. If you don't know specific words to find what you're looking for, it's a pain in the ass.

http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/search....der=descending

Look at thread #1. Because those words are in there, it's #1. There needs to be general things tagged with posts, like pictures and what not.

I'm not trying to be a crybaby. With enough searching I was able to find what I wanted, but since PP brought up his problems, I thought I'd just add the trouble I've run into sometimes.

When I'm searching, I don't always know who posted, what the thread title was, what page it was on, and the exact keywords they said. If you don't know at least half of that, searching can be a pain in the ass.

Kelly, did you search for G15 in order to try and recreate the problem?

This doesn't sound like the "problem" that I am reporting. This sounds like both your memory and searching skills are teh suxor.

over 50% of my searches in the past 2-3 months have failed. I Didn't bother to complaine because you say that's all I ever do, and you never take me serious. I'm guessing most people just don't bother telling you.

here are 2 pics explaining one of my recent failled searchs

and the post that has the word in it...

Ok, I finally cured the problem. Search *MAY* be slower now, but it will find everything you search for..

I just did a major change on how things are indexed in mysql

I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, but the G15 search from the original post still doesn't work. it doesn't even find this thread. Is it just because its only 3 characters?

Yeah.

Instead of vbulletin (the software I use) pulling the sql bases, it is now using the sql search which has a character limit of 4. I can't find it on my end here from my reseller panel for sql. It may be server side, and I have to go to my other computer for that.

Unless someone knows where in the sql setup is the character limit per search variable is.

It doesn't matter what vbulletin variables I edit, because it doesn't use that anymore, its a direct shot to the sql search
