Default Split Driveshaft

My 94 Explorer spit out the driveshaft last Friday. As I look at it, it came apart into 3 pieces. The 2 ends were still attached to the transfer case and rear axle. The center section of tube ripped off and had opened up lengthwise and twisted. Anyone ever see this before? I see no aparent damage to it, and it's a stock 4.0L V6. If I can get a digital camera, I'll take a pic.
