Default What Stall Converter?

I am trying to decide on a converter for my truck, and need a little advice on what Stall I should shoot for. The truck is a 91 F150 Truggy, 351w/C6. The truck weighs around 4k, and the motor is pretty much stock besides a set of headers, and running on propane. Currently the truck is on 40's, and will be running 5.13s/5.38's (Undecided). The truck will be used primarily for the trails/rocks, along with the occasional high speed run/bog. I was told around 2000-2200, but am completely clueless what seems right. Does this sound about right? Also, what's a decent brand/model that isn't hard on the pocket?

Thanks!

I run a stock "Rv" converter in my buggy with 351-c6-5.38s-42s I like the low rpm stall for ease of low speed crawling.

Higher stalls also create more heat in the trans.

That's a decent stall.

the stall in my th350 is around 2200. I personally think it's too low. it still wants to push through the brakes in low range. that and won't launch quite how I want( rig is 5300# with 42s and 5.38s) motor is a decently built 6.0 lq4

a good external trans cooler will take care of possible heat issues.

What tcase, behind the c6....

If 205, it won't below enough stall to push through anything lol.

I would not go over 2200. I put a 2000 in my race buggy (351W/C6/Atlas) and it was the best compromise of go-fast launches, crawling and heat management. It took a huge cooler to control it in race environments. This is what I ended up running; http://www.griffinrad.com/page6acc.php?key_id=CXU-00001

With this smaller cooler, I would be at 260F in 12 minutes with the 2000 stall converter. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/der-13900/overview/

Also, the brand and quality of the TC will have a big impact on the "feel" and heat control too. Not all 2000 stall converters are rated the same. For budget builds, I usually go with Hughes products. For other Ford specific trans stuff, I really like Broader Performance (especially valve bodies). http://www.broaderperformance.com/ The quality and function of the valve body also impacts heat, as I found out the hard way with ATI valve bodies.

In the hughes lineup, their Tow Master converters usually work well for that type of application. As bones said, advertised stall speed is only one piece of the puzzle. Stall Torque Ratio and efficiency are not equal across different manufacturers converters that might all have the same stall ratio.

Call up http://www.edgeracingconverters.com/

Only guy who knew what he was talking about when I was pricing out converters before trans swap. Everyone wanted to sell me off the shelf stuff.
