i drove one for a while didnt care for it when it was hooked to a 10k plus load i felt it was a turd for how many ci it was. with that said gearing helps alot they do like to spin a good rpm to make any power.

Only the early v10s spit plugs. Get 02 or newer and your fine.
the 3v motors have more power.
my 02 has been pretty much bullet proof.
I have put 2 coils on it. 1 tune up. Front brakes twice. Rears once. In 135k miles.
did ball joints, hubs and axle joints at 100k. Only needed one hub really. The rest was just maintenance.
I h ave pulled 18k without issue. If I baby it, in perfect conditions I can eek out 14mpg hiway.
usually its 12.5 to 13 hiway. The 2v motors eat exhaust manifold studs and gaskets.
I have seen a few well over 300k miles. Its a good motor. Hold out for an 05 or newer.
they have coils in front. 35 spline dana 60s with monster brakes. And more power.

They're only 414ci.

My sister/BIL have an 02 v10 excursion. Gets ~11mpg whether it's pulling the little camper or empty. Sees a lot of idle time though. Has ~250k. He says it has decent power when pulling the camper.
