Well I finally got my trigger kit for my .380 pocket pew pew and got it installed. While I was there I figured I would rework and polish all the internals....then that spilled over to the controls and then I was polishing the feed ramp and ended up doing the whole barrel.

@FlatFender They are offering the Shield both ways now. With and without the safety.

I sold off my .40 Shield. That thing had the most muzzle flip of any handgun I have owned.

I imagine they are.

Nothing illegal going on, just training and prepping.

Steel plates for long range rifle plinking (200-500 yards), what's the minimum thickness of steel plate should I be using? Nothing more than a .300 win mag will be shot at it, usually .243, .22-250, .30-06, etc.

I've never shot at steel, but I want to shoot at something that won't need reset, will give an audible "gong" when hit, and will last a while.

Use AR500. .300WM is some potent shit.

You'll want some moderately thick AR500 as well. 3/8" would probably work for a while, but you'd get the most life out of 1/2" targets.

I have six 1/4" AR500 plates on stands that we shoot . They have been shot with everything 400 out to a thousand. With smaller calibers 223 22-250 243 etc 100 to 400 without a problem. See the holes in the second to the back plate ? 75 yards with ballistic tips.

There goes that idea...

I found a bunch of 2' diameter 3/8" thick steel plates that I'd hoped would work out, but being mild steel...I guess not.

This vid gives a pretty good demonstration of ar500 vs mild steel plates.

So I guess I'll stick with water filled milk jugs for the time being, some real steel targets will come later on down the road.

I think at 400+ yards I'd probably shoot them up anyways, if they are free or cheap.

They will work great for pistol. If you don't care about damage shoot them then scrap them.
The better steel lasts a long time. Here are some smaller ar500 targets that are 3/4" thick the marks are from a 243 at four hundred yards. I bought them from Bigdog steel on Snipers hide.

I've seen used ones recently going under $500.

I haven't looked much yet, but that's what's making me want it. Relatively cheap but still supposed to be a good rifle.
