When I read up on those (years ago) I found over and over that they were not effective against mosquitoes because mosquitoes are not attracted to light like other bugs. Mosquitoes are attracted to other things such as body heat and CO from breathing.

Are those zappers different now?

They come with mosquito attractant (octantal) and they emit heat to draw the misquotes in, also, when moths get zapped the emit heat spike, drawing the mosquitoes there also.

I just fogged my whole yard, considering I was IN the fog and still getting ate I don't think it will help.

I also moved my zapper and refilled the attractant.

If you're interested in not being eaten alive by mosquitoes...

I did some checking. I know a guy that used Cutter's Back Yard Bug Control Concentrate and found that it was less that effective.

I checked the MSDS sheet because I couldn't find the active ingredient. Turns out, that it's Lambda-cyhalothrin 0.16%.

The stuff that I have been advised to use is called Cross Check. Their MSDS shows active ingredient of Bifenthrin @ 7.9% and Propylene Glycol at >6.2%
Short of purchasing it through a licensed agent, that seems hard to come by. But, it is often referred to that Cross check is Talstar.

Talstar seems MUCH easier to come across. The MSDS shows an active ingredient of Bifenthrin @ 7.9% and Propylene Glyco @ 5-10%...

Giggity, giggity, giggity.

Comparing Bifenthrin to Lambda-cyhalothrin

Insecticide Concentration % entry % mortality % inhibition of
(mg/m2
) blood feeding
WHO-recommended concentration
Bifenthrin 25 12 94.5 97
Lambdacyhalothrin 20 5 97 100
25% WHO-recommended concentration
Bifenthrin 6.25 7 95.5 100
Lambdacyhalothrin 5 12.5 88 97.5
12.5% WHO-recommended concentration
Bifenthrin 3.125 3 94.5 100
Lambdacyhalothrin 2.5 21.5 45.5 98

According to Wikipedia, both are forms of pyrethroides, synthetic products based on the structure of Pyrethrin. Bifenthrin is still effective when there is a resistance for other pyrethroides.
From my limited research, if you're going to try to bring a modern day holocaust to mosquitoes, use bifenthrin.

Now the million dollar question. whats the best application? For consumer use/ease, you really have two options.
1. Garden hose applicator. This screws onto a garden hose, and mixes the chemical and water via settings.
2. Hand/back pack pump sprayer. Mix chemical and water to desired % and apply.

From reading reviews, and opinions, option #2 seems to be the desired. The hose applicator has physical limitations, as you must be connected all the time. Also, it appears the settings of % mixtures often fails, and leaks uncontrollably wasting product. This also wastes expensive product.

I haven't showered in a month or so. I've found that mosquitoes no longer bother me. These things may or may not be related...

We are looking into hiring a professional company that has a money back guarantee. At this point I figure if it works it's worth it, and if it doesn't we are not out anything.

It's been a non stop electric show from sundown to sun rise. It's only been up for a few days, and it's been fairly cool at night. I couldn be my imagination, but it seems to have made a small difference, but I think it's to early to tell. I can atleast go out side with out getting swept away, for a couple minutes anyways. I am planning on commencing chemical warfare this week.

walked the dog in the North COuntry trail and rubbed some Bounce fabric sheets over my clothes and exposed skin and only got 2 bites on a 3 mile walk.
