Default 78 89 fuel sender brass round float the same?

I have a good float at my parents house out of a 89 bronco, and my 78 f100 fuel gauge doesn't work, and when I hit the bottom of the tank it sounds like the float is sitting at the bottom of the tank, the sender is still good and worked before i changed the pump, I am just wondering if the old float out of my 89 will fit my 78 sender.

No longer care, took it apart and the float was good. Had to take the rheostat? apart, and bend the part that touches it back to touch the rheostat? again, now my fuel gauge works again, I must have bent it when it was apart. Thanks god it wasn't anything, I have not have a fuel gauge.
