Out of curiousity Sean, would it have been easier/better to put it on an angle? That way you would have had a standard fitment, and been able to drop one in if you were to ever ram something through it? Custom fan shroud

Made me think about those guys that put them on like a 45 angle in those rx7s

If there were space I would have, but I wasn't able to angle it much. I tried. Leaning the top back put it into the fan and leaning the bottom forward interfered with the grill, steering shaft collar/bolt, and lines. In other words, I wasn't able to tilt it enough to make a difference. I'm much happier with it this way.

I just bought the 24x16 instead of the 24x18 and didn't worry about it.

That's all that matters. I know I'd be kicking myself if I put something through my radiator after making it custom.

Keep on 'er. I love this build

I'm ready to start a new build... once I get into a house.

Yeah that probably would've worked better. My initial rough measurements told me it'd work, but it ended up tighter than I'd like.

Yeah hopefully that won't be an issue. I haven't damaged a radiator before, so hopefully it stays that way. Not like I can't do the same mod on a new one again if need be.

I also don't usually wheel next to a summit racing, so I'd be SOL either way.

Made the upper radiator mount last night:

The angle iron piece will get trimmed down more I think, but I left it like that for now so I have options for mounting the fan shroud.
Functionally I think the setup will work fine but I'm not a big fan of the look. Haven't come up with any better ideas yet that wouldn't be a pain in the ass...anybody else have any ideas?

How about upright mounts on each side of the radiator coming up from the frame rails?

Just as another option, but that should work as well.

Yep that could work too. I also considered off the coilover hoops. Every other option seemed like more trouble than it's worth. This setup should work fine and is growing on me, so hopefully I can just leave it alone.

Sadly, no. We just got a really nice one at work though. A coworker who does a lot of custom cars and motorcycles welded it for me. I badly need to get some time in on that thing so I can get proficient at it. This is the first time somebody else has welded on one of my rigs since I had the XJ. I'm probably gonna modify my fuel cell so I can run full exhaust, so I better hurry up and learn.

Front cage tie-ins are in place:

They're not the most insanely high clearance ones ever, but the strength is there.

Slow going as usual, but cage tie-ins are done.

More things are getting crossed off the list, and most of what's left are smaller and easier things.

Made some good progress the past few days.

Grill mount:

Front tow points:

Bumper almost done, gotta weld some more and add the removable winch plate and braces:

I was thinking about adding a grill hoop and small light bar, but I think I'll hold off for now. I can always add them later without much trouble.

Not sure yet how much additional bracing I'm gonna add to it. It's pretty stout as it is, and the winch plate will have some bracing added too, but the whole thing can obviously see lots of stress. I seem to remember @benny87 twisting his up pretty good, but I don't plan to get into the situations he does either.

Just add the hoop the day before you flop it- that's what I would do.
