Sure is. We were just over there last weekend for my daughter's birthday party.

Interviewed this morning and got the job. No official start date yet, but probably 4-6 weeks out. Looks like I'm going to be very busy for a while.

Anybody familiar with the Fair Haven/Anchorville area? I have heard Algonac schools are good and would like to stay close. I have seen some pretty nice houses around Fair Haven and Anchorville, which would be close enough to drive the kids to school in Algonac if needed.

I'm in Casco and it takes me 30 minutes to get to the Ford plant where I work. Been here almost 10 years now. There's been some good deals on foreclosed homes with acreage.

I know several people who live in both areas and are happy with the area and schools. Anchorville is 3 miles straight south of me and there's a boat launch if you're into going out on the water.

I plan to stay fairly close to 94 to keep my commute decent, but for the right location, I wouldnt mind a little more of a drive. Im thinking I want to stay north of 26 mile and south of Port Huron, so a pretty large potential area. If it was up to me, we would live away from everything, in the middle of nowhere, but my wife is from the suburbs and would go crazy with no nearby stores.

Have you checked Zillow? I have a search alert set up to keep track of what's going on in my zip code so that when I'm ready to head north I know what prices are doing. Right now there's some nice homes for sale in Casco but I don't know what your price ranges are. I would also suggest not wanting to own a nice car living on these dirt roads.

My wife thinks the area is a bit hick (the Family Farm and Home there is a dump, the Kmart is barren, the Kroger is run down) and she is right in that most of the people have more toes than teeth... but I grew up in Owosso so it seems pretty normal to me.
Kroger's was just renovated. I haven't been in there in a year, though. The FF&H is cleaner than it was but I prefer TSC myself.

Thanks for the info everybody. Yes, I do have Zillow. Its a pretty good app. After reviewing the specifics of the job, I have opted to decline the offer. There were simply not enough perks for us to relocate. The job was for nearly identical pay, lesser benefits, and the retirement plan was not as good. Also, I am scheduled to take the state exam to upgrade my DEQ wastewater operators license later this week. Only about 30% of people who take the test actually pass. If I do not pass the test, my current job is unaffected, but if I were to accept this new offer, I could lose my job over a failed test. Too much risk, almost no reward.

Kroger is not rundown, lol. It's actually really nice. My daughter works there. She's a bagger/cart getter. Tall blonde. Everyone should go harass her and tell her that her mom sent them.

I lived in Algonac briefly and there's no amount of money anyone could pay me to do that again. I'm in Richmond now, and I drive my kids to school in Memphis. If I had an opportunity, I would send my kids to Anchor Bay or Utica Schools. They have some of the best curriculum and offer a lot of opportunities that other smaller districts cannot. I would not put my kids in New Haven schools, it's underperforming and has more than its fair share of drug concerns.

Be careful about where you settle on County Line Rd. The landfill does NOT smell good in the summer.

I hope you're driving a ford to work everyday and not your jeep.
