If they charge per voucher I would see a lot more folks trying to get parking lot vouchers so they only pay $10 and then bring in a trailer with Jeep, razor, dirt bikes, etc.
If they do start charging they should charge more for trailer voucher, since that is more of "premium luxury"

That is a very good point. Why should I have to pay the same amount for my dune ready voucher since my tow rig is not taking up parking lot space.

It's becoming too much. I'm just not too excited to go there anymore to deal with all the b.s.. I'd rather go to R&V, the Badlands etc.

$10 is a lot cheaper than going up there and camping the night before just to get a vouher. I'll support that idea 100%. It's only $10. Look at the money people spend on their toys and put the cost of the voucher in perspective. Quit bitching.

I've never had a problem getting a voucher. Hell, I've always usually been first for second in line to get one. Maybe I am doing something wrong? I guess the way I look at it, I don't go up the night before just to get a voucher. I usually go up Thursday night or Friday morning just to spend more time out there.

I don't know how I feel about this though. I don't quite know all the politics involved with the DNR. Like I said, I've never had a problem getting a voucher. I've also never been to SLSD on a big weekend (Memorial day, 4th of July, etc.). I know the dunes are loaded on those weekends. This might be a good idea for those big holiday weekends.

Couple questions, is this $10 a person or rig? And is this just to reserve vouchers or can I not reserve one and still get one like I've done in the past?

I've had many friends drive up in a Saturday and be denied entry. Luckily never me but I know not to show up at 10am on Saturday with no voucher. Sunday usually isn't a problem.

I don't see how they are going to stop scalping on the popular weekends.

I wouldn't have a problem with it for holiday weekends, If it got rid of the lines and waiting. But for regular weekends I don't think it makes sense, just another way for them to get $$$.

Usually I don't have too much of a problem with fees increasing as they haven't much in the last however many years, but this just screams money grab.

I have always thought they should have an online system in addition to the current one. I have also thought they should not be free just to keep people from "waisting" them. I think 10 bucks is more than they should be (Heck $2. would keep most people from waisting them and bring in free money for the state).

What is this really costing the state?
Add a section to the website, that.
a. notes how many pre vouchers are purchased and sends an email to them
b. allows people to pay them with paypal and emails them a voucher confirmation.
c. ?????

PS I totally agree with what someone said earlier..Why do they have 4 people on the way in to ask if you have what you need. Why can't they open the gate by the entrance and allow dune ready vehicles right in (1 person asking if they are all set to enter)......

It doesn't make it right, and now it will be easier for them to do it.

FYI to all - if you approach me in the idea that you are going to scalp a voucher, prepare to have the authorities involved.

I believe that they are currently looking at $10 per vehicle or per parking lot pass. Basically they are not changing the vouchers, just a $10 fee for each voucher.

Why don't they allow dune parking in the voucher parking lot?

So now it comes to light that the company running the online voucher purchase system is going to get to keep all of the money for their services and not one penny will go towards making the dunes any better.

I wonder what fat cat government employee's best buddy owns that company? This smacks of government corruption. You watch, in another year they're going to start sticking that $10 fee on every single person all week long....on top of the increased ORV sticker fee… On top of the trail use sticker fee…

This really screws the people that live in Michigan, especially those that live within a couple hours of the dunes. Over the last 30 years I've been going there, I remember doing a lot of last minute weekend trips or just zipping over there for half a day to set on the beach. The only benefit to this will be for the relatively few people that come from many hours or several states away that are committed "hell or high water" to be there on certain dates for their only trip to Michigan whether it's rain or shine.

Agreed, that sucks.

I disagree. There are a lot more people supporting this change than you realize. Understandable that the people that live close are upset, especially those that load up a van full of people and go through the line once and come out with 20 free vouchers and then sell them all. Enough of that crap.

It will be great to be able to get in on Saturdays and Sundays without having to drive up the night before and wait in line for vouchers. It will make trips faster, easier, and more affordable.
