Nice ride for a 16 year old! I agree with the payments turned into future upgrades idea. It's already got a good 3-4" lift on it....throw on some TJ flares, 33s on the existing wheels, and call it good!

No the 2.5 4 banger will carry its self on 33s at 80mph easy no issues on the highway. I know that from my brothers jeep. Lol

Default My son's 1st Jeep

This one is a tbi not a multi port
And it must of been a good one
My jeep didn't like 31s with the stock 4.10s
It loves the 33s and 4.88s tho
My old motor is kinda tired too

Ah, didnt catch that. I don't know how, it was said like a billion times looking back.
The jeep only had 100k miles on it at the time so it wasn't too worn out.

Ya that helps a lot
Especially when you only start with like 125hp lol
I think the tbi is like 10 or so hp less

That's not too big of a difference. I think it will do fine.

The diference between a 5.2 and 5.9 magnum is only like 30hp or so....
It all counts

My parents had me paying rent, car insurance and a car payment all through high school. I I hated them for it but it ended up being a sweet check when I bought my first house!

4.88's is the single best thing that can be done to a 4cyl YJ.

That, and getting rid of the vacuum disconnect.

Should have bought him a 4Runner. That Jeep won't flex at all.

My grandpa financed me for my first car too at 16, I made monthly payments to him ad insurance payments to my parents. Then after I graduated they took that money and gave it to me to help pay for college... I agree it's the right way to go and teaches the kid a lot.

Yeah.....take his primary focus off school and make him get a job!!!!
YEAH!!!!!

My parents went the opposite route. Bought me a new car and told me not to fukc up, or I would lose it. I rewarded them with enough scholarships for my undergrad that I made money to go to college. I doubt that would have been the case if I had to work to pay for a car that was ALREADY paid for.

Yeah, multitasking isn't an important life skill at all!! School and a part time job is perfect for a high schooler. It'll teach them responsibility without overloading them. I wouldn't expect full time school and full time work by any means, though some people manage to pull it off.

I've had a job since I was 14, or longer if you want to include soccer refereeing back in the day. I maintained 3.8-4.0 GPAs, paid for half of my first car and all of the rest of them, fuel, fun, etc. My parents paid insurance as long as I kept my grades up.

I agree with Sol Goode.

The kid has a 4.10 gpa, That's awesome! I think that is payment enough. Sounds like a good kid.

Depends on the kid.

Friend of mine has two boys, 3 years apart in age. Both got 'free' cars when they turned 17- they had to keep a clean driving record for a year before they got their own car.

Older boy did well in school, got a scholarship and is now in college, halfway to a law degree.

Younger son started partying as soon as he got his own car, grades dropped like a rock, dad took the car and now all he does is sit in the room and play video games.

Some people have the drive, some don't.
