By Richard Valdmanis | Reuters – December 4, 2013

http://news.yahoo.com/most-youth-unh...150328466.html

BOSTON (Reuters) - Young Americans are unhappy with virtually every major thing President Barack Obama has done since he was re-elected, but they would still vote for him today, according to the results of a Harvard University survey released on Wednesday.

Senate goes 'nuclear,' Democrats approve changes to filibuster rules
By Kasie Hunt and Carrie Dann , NBC News, November 21, 2013
http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news...libuster-rules

The Senate has voted to change one of the chamber's most fundamental rules, invoking the so-called 'nuclear option' for executive branch and non-Supreme Court judicial nominations.

Fifty-two Democrats voted for the measure, an unprecedented change previously threatened but not invoked until Thursday. Three Democrats -- Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Mark Pryor of Arkansas -- voted with Republicans against the change.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid speaks following the Senate's vote to instate a simple majority to approve executive branch and judicial nominees except for Supreme Court picks, saying "Washington has been in gridlock, gridlock, gridlock" and "we're sick of it."

The vote overturned an existing rule that required a 60-vote majority for the approval of presidential nominees.

Obama Offers Second Chance For Missouri Court Nominee by Carrie Johnson - NPR, December 3, 2013

http://www.npr.org/2013/12/03/248354...-court-nominee

President Obama has made it a priority to choose federal judges who are diverse in terms of race or gender. But for the most part, he's avoided controversy for those lifetime appointments.

That's why the nomination of a Missouri lawyer named Ronnie White has raised the eyebrows of experts who've been around Washington for a while. Old hands remember that White was rejected for a federal judgeship back in 1999 after a party line vote by Senate Republicans.

Now, in what experts say could be an unprecedented step, he's getting another chance...

Binder and other experts who study nominations say they can't remember a time when a judge who's been voted down in the Senate has been renominated.

"There may be a case way back when in the early 19th century but for all intents and purposes this is unprecedented for a president to come back and renominate someone," Binder adds...

Conservative groups who follow judicial candidates are digging through his record. Carrie Severino of the Judicial Crisis Network says given the recent change in Senate rules, she thinks White will get through this time.

"It's definitely clear that with the new 51-vote threshold it's going to be very difficult to stop his nomination," Severino says. "So I think they're hoping to get through now some of these more extreme nominees that before would have required a bipartisan consensus to move on."

Seymour Hersh Alleges Obama Administration Lied on Syria Gas Attack

By Adrian Lee | The Atlantic Wire – December 8, 2013

http://news.yahoo.com/seymour-hersh-...04437397.html#

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh has dropped yet another bombshell allegation: President Obama wasn't honest with the American people when he blamed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for a sarin-gas attack in that killed hundreds of civilians.

In early September, Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States had proof that the nerve-gas attack was made on Assad's orders. "We know the Assad regime was responsible," President Obama told the nation in an address days after this revelation, which he said pushed him over the "red line" in considering military intervention.

But in a long story published Sunday for the London Review of Books, Hersh — best known for his exposés on the cover-ups of the My Lai Massacre and of Abu Ghraib – said the administration "cherry-picked intelligence," citing conversations with intelligence and military officials.

A former senior intelligence official told me that the Obama administration had altered the available information – in terms of its timing and sequence – to enable the president and his advisers to make intelligence retrieved days after the attack look as if it had been picked up and analysed in real time, as the attack was happening. The distortion, he said, reminded him of the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident, when the Johnson administration reversed the sequence of National Security Agency intercepts to justify one of the early bombings of North Vietnam. The same official said there was immense frustration inside the military and intelligence bureaucracy: ‘The guys are throwing their hands in the air and saying, “How can we help this guy” – Obama – “when he and his cronies in the White House make up the intelligence as they go along?”’

Gates blast rocks Obama administration
by Stephen Collinson | AFP – January 8, 2014
http://news.yahoo.com/obama-didn-39-...221804621.html

"the Gates bombshell was so remarkable because of the pedigree of the former defense secretary and CIA chief, his long experience as a confidant of presidents, and his reputation for unruffled integrity and discretion.

So it is more difficult for the White House to write off the book -- "Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary of War" -- due to be published on January 14, as a typical episode of Washington score settling.

...Given the deep respect Obama appears to have for Gates, and a belief that they were on the same page strategically on many issues, the revelations may be personally hurtful to the president.

In the most damaging revelations, Gates suggests Obama soured on his own troop surge strategy in Afghanistan and lost confidence in General David Petraeus and other military brass he picked to lead it.

Gates also slams White House aides for obsessive attempts to control all US national security and foreign policy to the detriment of the State Department and the Pentagon, and excerpts from his book reek of a deep distaste for Washington and its political games.

In comments which could reverberate in the 2016 presidential campaign, he says Hillary Clinton told Obama that she only opposed a troop surge strategy in Iraq for political reasons during the heat of their primary battle.

He also blasted Vice President Joe Biden as "wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue" of the last four decades".

Court weighs president's recess appointments power
By MARK SHERMAN | Associated Press – January 12, 2014
http://news.yahoo.com/court-weighs-p...-politics.html

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is refereeing a politically charged dispute between President Barack Obama and Senate Republicans over the president's power to temporarily fill high-level positions.

The case being argued at the high court Monday is the first in the nation's history to consider the meaning of the provision of the Constitution that allows the president to make temporary appointments to positions that otherwise require Senate confirmation, but only when the Senate is in recess.

The court battle is an outgrowth of increasing partisanship and the political stalemate that's been a hallmark of Washington for years, and especially since Obama took office in 2009.

Brewmenn... Regardless of your political views, I've always considered you to be a smart guy.... But seriously. This is the best retort you can muster?

Obviously, Obama isn't up for re-election. His nut swingers in the senate are. Because of actions that he, as the leader of the Democratic Party has made, it has places the Dems in the senate in peril, threatening to screw up the fail safe that he has in the Senate. Obama has to do something to give his party mates something to vote for/campaign on to try to salvage their re election efforts.

They are going to stop listening to phone calls because it's far more cost effective to look for keywords in text messages and e-mails.

They are ending meta data collection because their Utah data center is in full swing so they can just record the entire calls now with all their capacity.

I've been busy with other things. I posted this mainly based on the headline, since that was the thread subject. After reading some of the article I have no idea who supports what.

OBAMA RESIGNS!

'I'm in way over my head'

This is the hope and change we wish would happen.... I wonder if Obama pulled a Dick Nixon (with Gerald Ford) and picked Biden as VP to be 'impeachment insurance'....
