there is a built 9" right now that is bolt in for an XJ in the classifieds that is VERY enticing, especially considering ive got 5on5.5 rims sitting in the garage.

if you look at the picture of the bearing, there is a visible gap between the bearing and the mating surface. i think it is going to quickly deform and match the deformation.... killing another bearing. how long will it take? i have no idea. but i dont want to find out driving down the highway.

Ahh I see
And I hope you don't mean that one for 2 grand
That axle could be built for about half that with your skills
But a 9 inch with a custom hp 30 front would be sweet

ya... not what i want to pay, but it has the gears in my head turning. im thinking i want something more sturdy than a 30, but dont want tons. (who am i kidding? we all want tons) and i want to use the 5on5.5 rims i have available.

im seriously looking into front and rear 9s. for the front, i think i could get away with my fancy knuckles and D30 Cs. one of my favorite KOH teams (petty cash, anymans class) runs their front "heavy half" 44 with D30 Cs and WJ knuckles, their claim is that the BJ design is superior to the 44. they top it off with a spindle conversion. the rig has been rolled and BJs/Cs lived to finish the race.

a 33 spline spool or locker should let me use the fancy 33 spline D44 shafts, and get the width to match a full with 9" rear.

we can fab... so if someone has other options. before i invest in axles, be sure to share.

Default Chernobyl Cherokee

A pair of 9s is ALWAYS cool

You could sell your knuckles and buy a set of stock 60 outers I bet then convert to 5 lug you have the machining ability

well... i think ive got my heart set on a 9 inch rear. i just got to find the right one. in the mean time, i was doing my shopping. was looking into UBEs, but they are pricey, but then i stumbled acrossed a set from TMR and said to myself, "i can make that." so i did.

first step? boot up catia:

DXF that bitch and take it to the plasma!

tacked and mocked up on some 3" tube. i made one side longer to act as a bit of an antiwrap feature. will it work? idk... its done now.

fully welded and ground down.... im pretty sure itll hold. lol. only had motivation to grind one tonight. lol.

- spring perches/shock mounts
- outer bearings/ seals
- brake lines and breather
- pinion guard
- ring gear protection
- possible shave

im in no rush, and dont plan to cut any corners.

yukon is refunding my spartan (win) but i accidentally reinstalled their super fancy hardened cross shaft when i put the spiders back into the diff... they want the cross shaft back as well. which is a little rediculous to me, knowing its all going to go in the scrap bin after someone looks at it. but i want my money back, so i just got done taking it out. i was surprised to find shiny stuff in the brand new diff fluid. i just took a mental note and dumped it back in.

good thing ive got an axle on deck.

been reading about pinion guards and 3rd members... a pinion guards helps protect the pinion, but stock housings still dont seem to like the abuse. solution? copy curries design...

hoping to shave and add ring gear protection at the same time.

stay tuned.
